Black Gold Farms has an opportunity for an AGRONOMIST for its Rhodesdale, MD farm location. The Agronomist position is a leadership position and critical to the day-to-day operation of our farm. The Agronomist works closely with management to grow a crop that will help Black Gold Farms achieve their vision of becoming the premier organization in agriculture and position the farm for a successful crop season. The role also offers potential for growth within the operation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in pre-season crop planning and land selection.
- Ensure the crop gets off to the best start possible by ensuring seed cutting, placement, and spacing is done properly.
- Monitor field conditions to make sound agronomic recommendations to the farm manager.
- Work closely with internal and external partners to manage the growth of the crop.
- Monitor soil moisture levels to ensure irrigation is scheduled timely.
- Lead GlobalGAP procedures for the location.
- Compile crop data to ensure the best possible decisions can be made for the crop.
- Participate in and supervise scouting, tissue, and soil sampling activities.
- Conduct pre-harvest digs and projections to predict yield and quality in the field.
- Execute research objectives at the farm and company-wide level.
- Supervise intern and seasonal staff activities.
