What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Social Worker position at Black Hawk Area Special Education District?
The Black Hawk Area Special Education District (BHASED) is a special education joint agreement between fourteen local school districts in the Illinois counties of Henry, Mercer and Rock Island. We cover approximately 1,200 square miles and serve parents and school staff that work with approximately 30,000 public, private and parochial school students.
We want teachers, parents, students, school administrators and all others that we serve to trust that BHASED staff are a valuable resource; that we are a team of professionals willing to partner with them to facilitate the appropriate education and socialization of all students.
This position is available for start as soon as possible.

Responsibilities Include:
- Provide individual social casework evaluation services to identify social and emotional problems of students as a part of initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
- Participate in and assist in the development of initial evaluation, re-evaluation and annual review conferences as appropriate.
- Participation in professional development activities to promote a positive social and emotional climate to help students succeed.
- Provide appropriate individual and group counseling services to students as specified on their Individual Education Programs.
- Knowledgeable of available resources to students through the district, cooperative and community.
- Maintain ongoing assessment with up-to-date progress reports on each student.
- Serve as liaison between school personnel and families of students referred.
- Serve as liaison between students and their families with community mental health and social service agencies.
- Serve as a resource to district staff on academic and behavioral concerns a part of the Multi-Tiered System of Support.
- Assist in the planning of district in-service experiences when appropriate.
- Maintain such records and reports, as may be required/requested.
- Provide Crisis Intervention services to students and staff when appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work with Specialization in School Social Work required
- Professional Educator License (PEL) required
