Position summary:
Manage and oversee projects related to coal handling and boiler systems, or turbine and rotating equipment, ensuring integration with electrical and control systems to maintain safe and reliable power generation operations.
Pay Range: This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
Senior: $94,800 - $156, 250
Lead: $103,150 - $170,200
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Engineering Manager or Director of Power Generation.
Location: Gillette, Wyoming
Essential Job Functions:
* Lead and manage projects involving coal handling systems, boilers, pulverizers, conveyors; or rotating equipment like turbines, compressors, pumps and fans, ensuring mechanical integrity and performance from conception to completion.
* Evaluate and revise maintenance procedures for plant mechanical systems, documenting updates and driving training initiatives.
* Manage the conducting of performance testing, tuning, and optimization of coal-fired boilers and associated machinery, integrating mechanical with electrical and control systems.
* Oversee the preparation and review of plant procedures and system descriptions related to mechanical equipment, ensuring equipment reliability, safety and environmental compliance and efficiency.
* Coordinate with external vendors for third-party maintenance, ensuring quality and adherence to project specifications.
* Assist in budget preparation for capital, maintenance, and operational activities focused on coal and mechanical systems.
* Facilitate the integration of new technologies aimed at improving reliability, environmental compliance, and safety.
* Ensure all project documentation is maintained accurately, reflecting any changes or updates in the management of change process.
Additional Responsibilities
* Interface effectively with consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies concerning coal and mechanical systems.
* Work closely with Operations and Maintenance to identify and implement capital projects, particularly those involving coal technology.
* Maintain strategic partnerships with internal departments like Generation Dispatch to align on business objectives.
What Is Required:
Senior:
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering with direct involvement in coal-fired boiler, coal handling systems, or in managing projects related to turbine and rotating equipment, required.
Lead:
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering with direct involvement in coal-fired boiler, coal handling systems, or in managing projects related to turbine and rotating equipment, required.
What Is Desired:
* Deep knowledge of power generation principles, focusing on coal-fired systems and the integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
* Strong mechanical engineering background with the ability to apply this knowledge to coal handling, boiler systems, and rotating equipment.
* Proficiency in project management, particularly in managing third-party engagements for system maintenance and upgrades.
* Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) processes for mechanical systems.
* Excellent problem-solving skills to address technical challenges in coal and rotating equipment.
* Ability to read, interpret, and develop mechanical and electrical drawings.
* Proficient in using MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, CMMS (EAM), PI, and PeopleSoft for project documentation and management.
* Strong communication skills for leading meetings, presenting project updates, and training staff.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team, adapting to varying project needs.
* Commitment to safety practices and environmental regulations in all project phases.
