Position summary:
In this role, the Gas Operations Technician will safely perform general gas distribution system maintenance and DOT compliance work in accordance with all federal, state, and company policies and safety standards. They will install both new and replacement natural gas system main lines and service lines.
Pay Range: $31.10 Determined by the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Reporting Relationship: Supervisor, Gas Operations
Location: Lawrence, Kansas
- Assist others in the installation and pressure testing of PE and steel gas mains and services.
- Follow all safety rules and keep work areas in clean condition.
- Assisting in meter readings and system patrols.
- Operate major equipment and tools including trenchers, back-hoes, and tapping and stopping equipment.
- Perform DOT Pipeline Safety functions and documentation such as pipeline patrolling, valve maintenance, corrosion control and leak survey.
- Pursue/learn basic understanding of meters and regulators.
- Successful completion of Cohort training (including skills such as locating).
- Successful completion of Operator Qualification (OQ) training.
- Complete PE Fusion certification at “Joiner” level.
- Develop toward being solo on-call.
What Is Required:
- No direct experience required.
- Valid Driver's license and insurability required upon hire.
- Utilize effective verbal and written communications skills.
- Exercise effective interpersonal skills with colleagues & customers.
- Intermediate computer proficiency, ability to learn new technology and operate hand-held devices.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Show initiative to learn and achieve independent work.
- Display excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop working relationships with maintenance and operations personnel in a team environment.
