General Purpose:  The Community Engagement Specialist develops and implements strategies to increase credit union visibility, strengthen community relationships, and support membership growth through events, social media, and community partnerships.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute credit union participation in trade shows, and community events, as well as credit union sponsored events, working closely with Member Experience staff to ensure consistency across regions
  • Manage and complete event logistics including venue selection, vendor relationships, materials preparation, promotion and staff coordination
  • Work closely with marketing team and stakeholders to ensure advertising and promotions help achieve desired results
  • Measure and report on event effectiveness and ROI, recommending improvements for future initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the Communications Specialist, develop and implement community engagement social media and communications strategy that amplifies our credit union's mission and services when out in the community
  • Create engaging content highlighting member success stories, financial education, community involvement, and credit union offerings
  • Monitor social media analytics for these posts to optimize content performance and engagement
  • Collaborate with Member Experience team and all member facing departments to initiate targeted campaigns and promotions that drive membership growth
  • Help identify and monitor the success of sponsorship opportunities that best align with strategic goals
  • Assist departments in tracking conversion metrics from community engagement activities to new memberships
  • With oversight from VP Marketing, optimize utilization of the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, ensuring resources are allocated strategically to address community priorities and create measurable impact.
  • Develop and manage the annual community engagement budget across all regional markets
  • Track expenditures, prepare regular budget reports, and identify opportunities for cost optimization

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Determine ways to best utilize the Charitable Fund to support BHFCU projects such as the School Support Drive.
  • Work closely with the Community Action Team and Sponsorships and Donations Committee to best utilize credit union funds to further the mission
  • Oversee the selection, ordering, and inventory management of promotional items and branded merchandise
  • Administer the communication and distribution of community event tickets obtained through corporate sponsorship packages and community partnerships
  • Ensure brand consistency across all promotional materials and logo items
  • Evaluate vendor relationships and negotiate favorable terms for branded merchandise
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Credit Union’s products and services as well as the Credit Union difference.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting Credit Union operations.
  • Knowledge of organization's policies/procedures and Credit Union's service philosophy.
  • Knowledge of basic graphic design tools.
  • Strong understanding of social medica platforms and content strategies.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of project management skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management
  • The ability to execute time management and self-discipline skills.  Must be able to manage time effectively, regardless of work location (branch office, home office or traveling).
  • Advanced ability to present and provide financial education; ability to communicate with all facets of the Credit Union's constituency, from entry level employees to skilled professionals and managers/owners; ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of business English and spelling/grammar.
  • Advanced knowledge of PC software, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and desktop publishing.
  • Ability to maintain member relationship information in a meaningful way that can be shared.

Job Qualifications (Skills):

  • Speech/Hearing: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with staff, members, Select Employee Groups, and vendors.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to perform necessary desktop publishing and computer related input
  • Physical Mobility: Ability to travel to make presentations on the Credit Union's behalf, travel to other offices, and the ability to work flexible hours.  Must be able to lift and carry twenty (20) pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive a company vehicle to events.

  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to comprehend complex functions and procedures and to be able to disseminate that knowledge in a clear and understandable format to others.
  • Ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, prepare, and maintain confidential records and reports.
  • Ability to analyze out-of-balance situations, statistics and financial data. Gather, assemble, correlate, interpret facts, and develop solutions.
  • Ability to handle daily routine with substantial freedom to interpret and act upon various situations.
  • Advanced project management skills, including planning and organizing with the ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and speak at public events.
  • Ability to analyze and recommend improvements to current processes, products, procedures, and services.

Job Qualifications (Education/Experience):

Education: Requires a four-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills. A minimum of three years of experience in community outreach, event planning, or marketing is required. Meets the essential job duties/responsibilities, job knowledge, and job qualifications. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education. 

This position requires flexibility and high professional standards of personal appearance, conduct, judgment, and the highest level of confidentiality.

Work Environment/Physical Activities

Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.

This position has the option of a hybrid work schedule, with at least three days per week in the office. An assessment of the remote work environment must be completed prior to a remote work plan being developed.

This job requires both desk assignment work and out-of-the-office presentations. The presentations given to prospective companies may require carrying presentation equipment. The job requires a strong degree of attention to details.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
