General Description of the Position:
Looking for a Registered Nurse or higher to provide support and leadership to our nursing department. Develop processes and procedures in collaboration with the Senior Leadership team and CEO to enhance services and team development. Continual assessment of internal systems monitoring effectiveness and efficiencies. Facilitates implementation of technologies as part of the organizations overall health care support systems. This includes tela health and assistive technologies available in general healthcare. Collaborate with the medical community to develop resources for people with disabilities to access all community healthcare services. Provide delegation, oversight and training to a non licensed direct support workforce to carry out legally delegatable tasks such as medication administration.
Lead the nursing department through coaching and teaching in roles that are primarily nursing assessment and case management in nature. Provide support and direction to ensure success and best practices. This includes making sure that caseloads are manageable and participants are receiving best possible health outcomes. Lead continual improvement processes around healthcare needs and practices. Presents a professional image to the agency staff, general public and to the medical community.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license or above.
- Ability to pass drug test.
- Ability to pass criminal background test.
- Self-motivated and organized leader.
- Able to be an effective classroom instructor.
- Actively involved in expanding current knowledge and professionalism through outside educational opportunities
Responsibilities:
- Supervises agency health-related activities.
- Supervises nursing department personnel in accordance with the agency's Affirmative Action plan described in the Policy Handbook.
- Provides leadership to the Nursing Dept. in continuous quality improvement of the department and in meeting agency and departmental goals.
- Identifies, delegates, and coordinates health care provided to persons receiving agency services.
- Functions as a member/consultant to the interdisciplinary team (IDT) when special health issues are present or when requested by the IDT.
- Maintains regard to dignity and respect for each person receiving services by maintaining confidentiality.
- Assists in assuring that the documentation systems function efficiently in meeting people's needs and agency standards. Acts as contact person between the nursing department and the computer department for major program changes.
- Promotes medical and general community awareness of BHW Mission and Values.
- Possesses a working knowledge of all of the positions in the nursing department. Must be able to perform any of the duties of other departmental staff, if necessary.
- Participates in agency-wide processes, including managerial project meetings, agency goal planning, safety meetings, general infection control, all staff training and others as requested.
- Maintains adequate staff to fulfill agency needs. Performs duties of interview, hiring, evaluation and termination process. Provides or coordinates training for nursing department staff.
- Promotes a professional, harmonious team environment.
- Supervises and coordinates completion of all documentation required to meet our agency policies and licensing/accreditation standards.
- Reviews yearly, and revises as necessary, nursing procedures or health-related policy.
- Monitors adherence to written policy and procedure and provides staff training as necessary.
- Participates in the interpretation and implementation of agency standards and regulations.
- Provides annual nursing in-service plan to department Vice President.
- Coordinates and/or presents medical orientation to all new staff or volunteers.
- Reviews and approves all in-services presented by the nursing department.
- Provides or facilitates any health-related education as the need arises or as requested by interdisciplinary team (IDT) or BHW.
- Acts as a consultant to Safety Committee (Reviews all Workers' Compensation claims and accident reports).
- Reviews all Infection Control reports prior to submitting to the department VP.
- Serves on special projects committees as requested.
- Works closely with other departments to assure consistent high quality health care delivery to all persons served by the agency.
- Oversees medical emergencies.
- Coordinates annual flu vaccinations for people served.
- Participates in the state-wide nursing meetings.
- Develop working relationships with the medical community.
- Work with the nursing schools to rotate students for volunteering in the homes.
