Operating Room Registered Nurse

Black Owl Recruiting is sourcing an experienced Operating Room (OR) Nurse with a strong background in orthopedic surgery to join our dynamic team at reputable client in Forest Hills, NY. This position involves assisting in the preparation, execution, and recovery phases of orthopedic surgical procedures in an outpatient setting. As an OR Nurse, you will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and efficient surgical experience for patients.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Care:

• Assess and prepare patients for surgery, including reviewing medical history, ensuring proper documentation, and explaining procedures to patients.
• Assist with the setup of the operating room, including sterilizing and arranging surgical instruments and supplies.
• Confirm patient identity and surgical site according to hospital protocols.

Intra-Operative Care:

• Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic procedures, including positioning, monitoring vitals, and maintaining sterile technique.
• Assist surgeons and surgical teams during orthopedic surgeries, including fracture repairs, joint replacements, arthroscopies, and soft tissue surgeries.
• Operate specialized orthopedic equipment (e.g., drills, saws, bone clamps) and manage instrumentation during surgery.

Post-Operative Care:

• Monitor patients’ recovery from anesthesia in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or recovery area.
• Educate patients and families about post-surgical care, including pain management, wound care, and activity restrictions.
• Assist in the discharge process, ensuring that patients have all necessary instructions for follow-up care and rehabilitation.

Collaboration & Communication:

• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical techs to ensure smooth and efficient surgery flow.
• Document all nursing interventions, patient conditions, and outcomes in the patient’s medical record.
• Ensure that patient safety and confidentiality are maintained at all times.

Sterilization & Safety:

• Maintain a sterile environment during surgeries and adhere to infection control protocols.
• Ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of surgical instruments and materials.

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with active licensure in New York.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as an OR Nurse, with a strong background in orthopedic surgery (total joint replacement, arthroscopy, fracture repair, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures, anatomy, and medical terminology.
• Certification in BLS and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
• CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, outpatient surgical environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move patients, and perform other physical tasks as required in a surgical setting.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours overtime

Salary: $60/hour
