Key Responsibilities at Black Rock:
The Engineering Manager’s primary responsibility at Black Rock is overseeing all quality control activities related to hot mix asphalt production and aggregate processing. This role ensures compliance with specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements while promoting operational efficiency and product excellence.

- Develop and implement quality control procedures for hot mix asphalt and aggregate products.
- Oversee laboratory testing and field evaluations to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO).
- Conduct regular sampling, testing, and analysis of raw materials, intermediate, and finished products.
- Request test results on all independent laboratory tests; compare to internal test results.
- Develop internal standards for gradations and statistical analysis of aggregate and asphalt test results.
- Develop a timeline and implement the procedures to become an AASHTO-Accredited laboratory within two years.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all production activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records for compliance and reporting purposes.
- Team Management:
- Supervise and train quality control personnel, fostering a culture of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Coordinate with production, sales, and dispatch teams to resolve quality-related issues effectively.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify areas for process improvement in production to enhance product consistency and reduce waste.
- Implement and monitor corrective actions to address quality deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities at Buildology:
The primary role for Buildology is to provide engineering support for Redi-Rock and Anchor Diamond retaining wall designs. The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing all technical and quality control activities related to precast concrete and concrete masonry unit production. This role ensures compliance with specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements while promoting operational efficiency and product excellence.
· Engineering
o Retaining Walls
· Oversee and manage all retaining wall designs in accordance with the project specifications and industry standards.
o Review projects with estimating team:
o Ensure all design assumptions are understood and correct.
o Review and approve all preliminary designs, cost estimates, and selling prices.
· Provide training and feedback to advance the skills of the estimating team.
o Engage with the outside professional engineer to seal the plans (Engineer of Record).
· Interact as liaison between the project owner/designer and Engineer of Record.
· Ensure accuracy and completeness of AutoCAD drawings and construction specifications.
· Manage estimators and outside sales personnel to assist in jobsite observations and contractor training.
o Industry involvement
· Active participation in industry associations.
· Quality Assurance and Testing:
o Precast and Block
o Manage the current Quality Control programs.
o Maintain National Precast Concrete Association Certification.
o Determine value in becoming a certified Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association (CMHA) member.
o Oversee laboratory testing and field evaluations to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards (e.g., CMHA, ASTM, ACI).
o Conduct regular sampling, testing, and analysis of raw materials, intermediate, and finished products.
· Qualifications:
· Engineering degree
· 5 years of experience in quality control within the construction materials industry. (Asphalt, aggregates, concrete, block, hardscape).
· Geotechnical and/or engineering experience in retaining wall design.
· Comprehensive knowledge of industry production processes, equipment, and materials.
· Familiarity with industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, etc.) and regulatory requirements.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
· Excellent communication and leadership skills.
· Proficiency in quality management software and laboratory testing equipment.
Preferred Skills:
· Professional Engineering licensed in the State of New Mexico
· Certifications such as ACI, NICET, or DOT-specific quality control certifications.
· Experience with environmental and safety compliance.
