Job Summary:
The On-Site Quarry Mechanic - Nighttime Oiler plays a vital role in maintaining the efficient operation of equipment used in Black Rock's quarry operations. This position is responsible for servicing heavy machinery, greasing, oil checks, and fueling trucks during nighttime hours to ensure equipment is ready for operation each day. This role requires an individual who can work independently, prioritize tasks, and adhere to safety and maintenance protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform nightly maintenance tasks, including greasing machinery, checking oil levels, and ensuring all fluids are topped off.
- Fuel trucks and other heavy equipment as necessary, maintaining accurate fueling logs and ensuring equipment is fueled for next-day use.
- Conduct visual and basic functional inspections of equipment to identify any signs of wear or needed repairs and report findings to the maintenance team.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment around service areas, adhering to company safety guidelines and protocols.
- Monitor and inventory grease, oil, and fuel supplies, notifying the supervisor when supplies need replenishment.
- Complete assigned maintenance tasks efficiently and promptly to ensure machinery and equipment remain in optimal working order.
- Communicate with day-shift mechanics to relay any issues or areas of concern that require further attention.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in diesel mechanics or a related field are a plus.
- Experience in heavy equipment maintenance, oiling, greasing, and fueling, ideally within a quarry or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of basic mechanical and operational requirements of quarry equipment, including loaders, excavators, and trucks.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritizing tasks effectively during nighttime hours.
- Strong adherence to safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Basic record-keeping skills to log maintenance activities, fuel levels, and other relevant data.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physically fit and able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working with various oils, lubricants, and fuels and around heavy machinery.
Work Hours:
This is a full-time, nighttime position. The typical shift hours are 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with some flexibility as required by operational demands.
