We are seeking a skilled and innovative Product Development Chemist with a strong background in chemistry (or related field) and applied materials to join our manufacturing team. This individual will play a critical role in color matching for coated cloth, improving coating formulations, and enhancing overall product performance—particularly water resistance. The ideal candidate is both analytical and hands-on, capable of bridging the gap between laboratory development and production execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Color Matching:
- Match and formulate custom colors for coated fabrics using pigment, dye, and binder systems.
- Adjust color formulations to achieve consistency across production batches and customer specifications.
- Coating Performance Enhancement:
- Evaluate and improve water resistance, durability, and aesthetic properties of coated cloth.
- Experiment with additives, binders, and crosslinking agents to optimize barrier properties and flexibility.
- Product Analysis & Development:
- Conduct critical analysis of existing products to identify areas for improvement in performance, cost, or quality.
- Lead R&D efforts on new coating technologies, surface treatments, and application methods.
- Perform structured testing for adhesion, abrasion resistance, hydrostatic pressure, and chemical compatibility.
- Collaboration & Technical Support:
- Work closely with production, quality control, and customer service to troubleshoot coating and color issues.
- Maintain accurate records of formulations, test data, and process modifications.
- Interface with suppliers for raw material selection and evaluation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in color formulation, coatings, or technical textiles preferred.
- Strong knowledge of polymers, pigment dispersion, and surface chemistry.
- Experience with color matching instruments and water-based or solvent-based coatings a plus.
- Analytical thinker with attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical teams.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $71,705.00 - $95,000.00 per year
