SHELTER OPERATIONS INTAKE SCREENER

Salary: $42,000K Date Est: 12.5.2023 Probation: 6 months

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, the Shelter Operations Intake Screener performs intake duties, including interviewing clients, providing basic program information on rules and regulations, explaining shelter stay processes and procedures, and making referrals to social services. The Screener also performs related work as required.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, education, or a closely related field is required. Alternatively, you may substitute two years of experience as an Operations Manager with a high school diploma.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Minimum supervision, Must be a self-starter.

DUTIES:

  • Serves as initial point of contact for applicants, intake/ collateral.
  • Interview clients and conduct client assessments (initial intake, housing assessment, reasonable accommodation, etc.).
  • Assist clients with completing contracts and perform initial screening of contracts.
  • Interview clients and explain programs, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete One Day/Engagement ILPs and appointment notices.
  • Research information (Client medications usage and classification of)
  • Provides information to clients seeking services and directly makes referrals for services.
  • Document discussions during meetings, and all client interactions.
  • Maintain case notes in CARES and record client documentation received; Complete an admissions intake note.
  • Schedule and coordinate appointments for individuals to meet with social services staff.
  • Clerical tasks (scanning documents, spreadsheet development and maintenance, sending faxes and emails.)
  • File management (purging, organizing, alphabetizing, etc.)
  • Assist with operations coverage.

· Interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures.

· Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

· Act with integrity; exercise appropriate discretion and maintain confidentiality of information.

· Establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships with those contacted during work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge- Principles of interviewing, investigating, and recording casework data.

Considerable knowledge of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, is required. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing, spreadsheets, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology, is also required.

Skills- Skilled in operating automated office equipment to include calculator, fax/copier; and the use of computer-driven word processing, CARES, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs.

Abilities- Able to withstand an environment that can be challenging at times.

Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with program participants; plan, organize, and prioritize one’s work.

Maintain working relationships with clients, co-workers, and the public to exchange ideas and coordinate activities. Accept direction and follow established procedures.

Exhibit solid interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution in working with clients, professionals, and employees.

Make screening decisions based upon specific criteria; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, manuals; and conduct effective interviews both face-to-face and by telephone.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
