Description and Qualifications
The Cycling Guide is responsible for enhancing Blackberry Farm's cycling program through guest interaction and by providing 5-star service to all guests during guided experiences including mountain bike, road, and leisure rides.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as assigned:
Cycling guide trips
- Guide guests on a 5-star cycling experience
- Assist and instruct guests with choosing routes, navigating unfamiliar routes, equipment selection and fit, the basic technique for novices, and safely completing a tailored ride based on the guest's expectations.
- Maintain general bike maintenance and provide basic roadside mechanical assistance on an as-needed basis
Guest Relations
- Assist guests with cycling knowledge
- Answer general questions regarding the sport
- Provide guests with information regarding cycling supplies and gear sold in the Gift Shop
Must comply with all company policies and procedures.
Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to work well with other Team Members and managers and interact with our guests.
Must have the flexibility to work weekends.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years experience and knowledge in cycling
- Experience with guiding cycling trips preferred
- Must have a valid driver's license
- High school diploma or Equivalent
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Must be able to communicate with guests, team members, and managers effectively
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Basic knowledge and understanding of math
REASONING ABILITY
- Must be able to resolve any issues regarding guests concerning cycling
- Must be able to exercise judgment and make decisions based on job knowledge and awareness of company goals
- Must be able to assess current conditions to provide a safe and quality experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to consistently ride 20 to 30 miles at a time on the road and/or be able to ride intermediate (blue) single-track trails up to 10 to 15 miles
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to be on feet most or all of the shift
- Must be able to operate a company vehicle or golf cart safely
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work in a demanding guest service environment
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
- 4,200 acres of Blackberry Farm property and surrounding areas
- 5,200 acres of Blackberry Mountain property and surrounding areas
