CAD Designer/Drafter – West Sacramento, CA
Position Summary:
Blackburn Consulting (Blackburn) is seeking a full-time CAD Drafter. This CAD Drafter will perform drafting services to our geotechnical, geo-environmental, geology and forensics departments. This CAD Drafter will be supervised by the West Sacramento Principal-in-Charge and senior firm leadership. This candidate shall have at least five years of experience using Autodesk Civil 3D and ArcGIS, preferably in the geotechnical/construction engineering business.

Blackburn Consulting provides geotechnical, geo-environmental, construction, forensics and lab engineering services throughout California with offices in Auburn, West Sacramento, and Fresno. We have an extensive geotechnical and materials testing lab in West Sacramento, CA. We focus mostly on public works including flood control and transportation. Blackburn has been in business since 1998, and is employee owned and operated.
Position Duties:
- Prepare site location maps, site plans, and plan & profiles for geotechnical and geo-environmental projects using Civil 3D drawings and .pdf files
- Create surface drawings in Civil 3D using point data from floor level surveys, topographic surveys, and/or LiDAR
- Create 2D structural layout plans, including plan, section, and elevation views and details
- Determine scales, layouts, and appropriate level of detail needed for project
- Communicate with Blackburn’s Project Managers, Engineers and Geologists to determine drafting scope and other related project needs
- Assist with the development and management of remote data collection GIS application/interface
- Manage CAD/ArcGIS licenses
- Assist manager and senior firm leadership in understanding changing software and hardware needs in CAD department
Essential Abilities:
- High-level working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D, including working with sheet sets, viewports, scaled drawings, etc.
- Working knowledge of GIS/ESRI software, Survey 123
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat DC
- Must have good organizational skills
- Familiarity with geotechnical/construction engineering business (Preferred)
- Communication skills internally and externally
- Multi-task between projects
- Ability to deliver a high-quality deliverable in a timely manner
Technical Qualifications:
- High school degree, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in CADD, engineering, or related field preferred
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle
- Experience with standard computer operations (Windows based systems)
Physical Requirements:
- Read, write, and speak English
- Communicate clearly in person and over telephone
- Visual acuity to perform job duties
- Physical ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, sit, push and pull up to 20lbs of weight
