Position Summary :

This is a senior level position as a Project Director in support of the National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC). The primary responsibilities of the project director are planning and oversight of project activities and budget, administration of contracts and deliverables, and management of staff, including performance reviews and scheduling.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in a business or technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience, training, or education in library and / or records management, including acquisitions, subscription management, cataloging and indexing, and reference staffing.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge about National Institute on Disability Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) grant programs and funding mechanisms and the disability, independent living, and rehabilitation research landscape, which is part of the information to be obtained and managed in the NARIC databases.
  • Experience and expertise in using industry standard thesauri for indexing and categorizing disability and rehabilitation information, such as the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) or the National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Heading (MeSH).
  • Prior experience in managing and maintaining databases for disability and rehabilitation research literature and other related informational products such as blogs, newsletters, and research summaries for both internal management and public distribution
  • Established networks with other established dissemination professionals and organizations, including library science professionals and organizations.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication ability.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of collaborative teams.

Essential Functions :

  • Oversee the planning and process for acquisitions for the NARIC collection ("the collection") assuring all documents meet the criteria for inclusion in the collection. Oversee the REHABDATA Thesaurus to ensure consistency and that changes are made as a result of rapid new directions in the field of disability research.
  • Oversee the project's electronic resources, including programming of the database for searching and distributing both online and in-house products. Ensure delivery and maintenance of an accessible, user-friendly website, including heuristic evaluation and usability study, and implementation of any recommendations from these studies.
  • Meet with the customer to provide updates, address any problems, ensure customer satisfaction, and any other matters as they relate to the statement of work. Deliver monthly reports to the COR which will include the status of deliverables; progress on tasks as outlined in the statement of work; the timeliness in responding to requests; any available conference and travel information; accounting of the funds maintained for mailing and reprinting articles in the collection; any media connections made during the reporting period; and any existing or potential problems that could impair project performance.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings for the purpose of addressing timeliness of deliverables, general issues related to the operations of the project, staff concerns, dissemination of new ideas, and other topics as considered necessary.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the project budget including expenditures, supplies, and all other line items. Manage the senior project staff in all areas, including guiding media and information services staff to accomplish marketing and outreach programs and dissemination methods for the purpose of educating the public about NIDILRR-funded contributions to disability and rehabilitation research, such as conference attendance and exhibits, virtual presentations, original publications, and social media content.
  • Supervising library management staff to assure the quality and completeness of NARIC acquisitions, following guidelines and procedures established by NIDILRR; ensuring complete accessibility for anyone wishing to visit the collection.
  • Disseminate information from the customer and the contractor's company to staff as it relates to the project and to corporate modifications.
  • Meet individually with each staff member to ensure a total understanding of his / her job description, set both short-range and long-term goals, and perform staff evaluations at least once a year and / or as considered necessary.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of annual leave to ensure suitable staff coverage is available at all times.
