Job Summary:
To model and provide excellent customer service in the evenings, ensure that store is adequately staffed and that daily operations are running smoothly

- Close store on time daily, ensuring that security procedures are followed and alarms are properly set
- Count and balance cash drawers to ensure amounts are correct; maintain adequate cash balance in office for daily operations; make bank deposits
- Operate cash registers/scanners; properly weigh produce, scan and bag merchandise accurately and in a timely manner
- Receive customer payments accurately, including cash, check, credit, debit and EBT transactions, and WIC coupons; provide accurate change when appropriate
- Train and supervise clerks in their daily duties
- Stock merchandise as needed, including produce, dairy and bakery items
- Make decisions regarding customer returns and refunds
- Provide and model friendly customer services at all times
- Sign for deliveries by UPS, FedEx or other courier system
- Maintain overall store appearance by cleaning floors, straightening items on shelves, pulling cardboard boxes, etc.
- Ensure customer safety by keeping aisles clear, cleaning up spills, etc.
- Perform other duties as required by management
Required Skills, Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail cashier experience preferred
- Ability to use interpersonal skills and communicate with customers, management, vendors and co-workers in a pleasant and effective manner, including active listening and using proper grammar
- Must be proficient in basic math and grammar skills
- Must be able to safely and properly use cash register, baler, electric jack, hand jack, box cutter or other cutting tools, wrapper, floor scrubber and various other cleaning tools
- Must be able to efficiently operate a computer, including a variety of software programs (MS Word, ICL, Save-a-Lot Program, First Class) and other office machines such as office copier, calculator and telephone
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
Employee must regularly:
- Lift up to 50 lbs. to a height of approximately 5 feet
- Carry up to 50 lbs. a distance of approximately 15 feet
- Walk the distance of the store several times daily on a tile or cement floor
- Sit for a period of approximately one hour while operating the computer and completing office and paperwork
- Stand for long periods of time while running the cash register or stocking
- Bend and twist when cashiering or stocking
- Push and pull carts when stocking and emptying boxes
- Speak and hear when communicating with customers, co-workers and supervisors
- See to scan products that are purchased and to stock items on shelves or in produce department
- While performing this job, employee is exposed to inside temperatures with concrete or tile flooring and moderate noise levels. There are occasional trips outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Commercial strength cleansers are used for cleaning duties.
