Job Overview
The Compliance Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering a comprehensive compliance program to ensure the Credit Union's adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and industry best practices. This role requires a strong understanding of financial institution regulations, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments within the Credit Union.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
- Monitor and interpret all federal, state, and regulatory changes affecting credit union operations and communicate these changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program, including policies, procedures, training materials, monitoring systems, risk assessments, compliance testing, and corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with the Learning and Development department to create and deliver compliance training programs for employees, covering topics such as NCUA regulations, DFI-OCU regulations, BSA / AML, consumer lending regulations (TILA, ECOA, HMDA, FCRA), and privacy regulations (GLBA).
- Conduct regular monitoring, testing, compliance audits, and risk assessments to identify and resolve compliance gaps and ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Coordinate with various departments (e.g., consumer and business lending, deposit services, operations, IT) to integrate compliance into all aspects of Credit Union operations.
- Work closely with the AML / CFT Officer to ensure adherence to the Credit Union's BSA / AML compliance program, including CDD, SAR, CTR and OFAC compliance.
- Manage and respond to regulatory examinations and audits, including preparing required documentation.
- Investigate potential compliance violations and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain and track compliance records, ensuring proper organization and retention.
- Continuously review and recommend updates to internal compliance policies to reflect current regulations and best practices.
- Prepare and present regular compliance reports to the Board of Directors and Senior Management, highlighting key compliance issues, risks, and program effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
