Position Summary
The Fitness Attendant serves an important role in greeting Members while handling day-to-day responsibilities within the Fitness Department. In this position, you will enhance the Member experience by creating a welcoming environment in which BCC Members and guests workout in while providing the highest quality of customer service. This position focuses on customer service with strengths in Professionalism, Good Communication, Relationship Building, and a keen eye for detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure all members check into facility at each visit
- Check in all guests and enforce guest and youth policies
- Create positive, friendly, and safe atmosphere with members
- Monitor members for safe and appropriate behavior as they exercise and use facility
- Assist members in registering for classes, massage appointments, touring facility
- Conduct Youth Orientations with teens 14-15 years of age
- Promote and represent our Club Fitness brand
- Sell and promote retail, drinks, snacks, service specials, and programs
- Answer member phone calls and questions, educate self on club events and info
- Maintain integrity of fitness equipment through detailed cleaning procedures
- Maintain neat, organized, and presentable front desk & lobby areas
- Check locker rooms, wipe down counters, keep tidy, restock as needed throughout shift
- Monitor gym floor, establishing a presence in the facility, approachable and available for members
- Communicate with other departments in a timely and polite manner
- Resolve member issues, answer questions and anticipate needs
- Make coffee, lemon/ice water, maintain laundry (wash/dry/fold)
- Report any member issues, broken equipment, conflicts, concerns, etc. to direct supervisor
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Previous job or volunteer experiences can include leadership, customer service, volunteer groups, or fitness specific experience and/or positions
- Private club experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of software
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict resolution and policy enforcement in a tactful and professional manner
- People oriented with positive attitude, professional appearance, and strong customer service skills
- Coachable with a continuous improvement mindset
- Proven problem-solving skills and sound independent judgement
- Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility, follow-through, multi-task and be reliable and responsive

- Mobility: The role may require frequent movement, including, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, or reaching to clean and wipe down equipment, counters, fold towels, move laundry bins, pick up and move equipment.
- Lifting: Occasional lifting of supplies, equipment, or inventory items may be necessary unto 50 lbs.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers for tasks such as typing, writing, operating computer systems, handling paperwork, and managing inventory.
- Vision: Clear vision and ability to read written documents, computer screens, and equipment displays are essential for reviewing reports, analyzing data, and assessing operations.
- Hearing: Good hearing ability is necessary for effective communication with staff, members, guests, and vendors.
- Stamina: The role may involve long hours and extended periods of activity, especially during peak business periods, special events, or club holidays and programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Indoor/Outdoor Setting: The majority of work is performed indoors, at front desk, lobby, and laundry room area. Opening and closing shifts will require outdoor turf maintenance, cleaning outdoor equipment as well as uncovering and covering equipment. All other indoor work will be performed in the main weight room area, locker rooms, and treatment rooms.
- Temperature: The work environment may vary in temperature, depending on the location and season. It may include both heated and air-conditioned areas.
- Noise Level: The work environment can be fast-paced and may involve moderate to high levels of noise from gym music, group fitness class music, and general noise from members talking, machines operating, and weights banging.
- Pressure: The role often involves working under pressure, especially during our busiest times, 6am – 11am and 4pm - 7pm typically on week days. Mornings can be the most demanding.
- Interaction: Regular interaction with staff, guests, vendors, and other department heads is common, requiring effective communication, interpersonal skills, and diplomacy.
- Safety: Adherence to health and safety protocols, including wearing gloves when handling laundry, using chemicals, cleaning equipment, when checking locker rooms. Awareness of surroundings is key to keeping self and others safe.
