Position Summary
The Starter’s primary responsibility is as an ambassador who enjoys helping members have the best possible golf experience. Greeting members and getting to know them while ensuring Member and Guest satisfaction while players are enjoying the facility is the Starter's primary focus. The Starter is responsible for controlling and maintaining the tee time schedule and ensuring Members and Guests have the information and amenities they need to enjoy their day. The Starter will be tasked with being aware of turn times and finish times, and when time allows, visit players on the course to positively influence pace of play.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Greeting Members and Guests and provide exceptional customer service, which can include answering questions and informing Guests of course rules, regulations, pace of play (typically 4 hours) and conditions.
- Ensure Members and Guests check with Golf Shop and tee off on the proper tee at the proper time
- Ensure the flow of play on the golf course is maintained in an orderly fashion and in accordance with tee times and club regulations.
- Assist members in finding games appropriate for their ability or skill level.
- In association with the Outside Services Manager / Head Golf Professional, post the daily conditions for play, including rules for golf car operation.
- Suggest that doubles and singles pair up as a group and have them double up in club fleet carts.
- Communicate thoroughly with the golf shop and address and resolve Member and Guests needs.
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of player activity on the tee sheet, including cart numbers, actual tee off time, turn times, and finish times, and turn in paper tee sheet at the end of your shift.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Successful candidates will have acquired skills and professional traits:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Clean driving record.
- Prior work golf course front of house experience a plus. Will train.
- Outgoing and engaging personality. Must enjoy working and interacting with the public.
- Cooperate with the rest of the golf staff as needed to provide the best possible member and guest experience. Must be knowledgeable about the game of golf and the rules of golf.
- Act as a role model representing the team by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to be directed and self-motivated with willingness to provide value added customer service.
- Service and customer-focused attitude.
- Enthusiastic, outgoing attitude and personality, with ability to defuse challenging situations.
