Overview
Basic Skills Instructor will provide developmental/pre college level instruction within our Learning Support Division. The position will be responsible for providing instruction in the basic skills for GED/HSED and developmental education and will assist and provide oversight to the English Language Learner Program. Position will also develop, maintain, and upgrade curriculum in areas of instructional delivery. Instruction may be held at the Beloit/Janesville Campus and/or any of the college locations or community partnership sites. Instruction will include online course design and instruction, embedded instruction in program courses, facilitating integrated training programs, and teaching daytime and/or evening courses.
This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of May 19, 2025.

Responsibilities
Provide instruction for assigned classes.
Engage in ongoing student learning assessment to determine effectiveness of instruction, course design and curriculum.
Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by department program chair and academic administration.
Identify and refer students needing assistance to various Student Support Services.
Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
Remain current on developments in the teaching and learning field so that instruction is delivered for a variety of learning styles, is supported by current technology tools and utilizes alternative delivery methods.
Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques and delivery methods
Remain current on curriculum content in the discipline and use of continuous quality improvement techniques to update content and foster current evidence-based program assessment and improvement.
Develop and update or revise course curriculum as needed to maintain program relevance.
Prepare and update course syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught, and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.
Participate in staff development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
Attend advisory committee meetings, department, division and faculty meetings.
Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations to administration.
Cultivate a personal interest in communities served by the college and participate when possible with community activities.
Assist in student and staff recruitment and job placement activities for graduates.
Meet weekly student engagement hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
Oversee and provide guidance to adjunct faculty teaching within the English Language Learner Program.
Provide professional development and support to English Language Learner adjunct faculty on best practices in English Language Learner.
Serve as a point of contact for English Language Learner adjunct faculty regarding program policies and procedures.
Assist in the selection and evaluation of English Language Learner program instructional Materials
Assist Dean/Manager and Department Program Chair in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Education, including elementary or secondary education or related field.
Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of K-12 or Post Secondary Teaching Experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with ELL and/or GED students.
TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification.
Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
