What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Truck Driving Instructor position at Blackhawk Technical College?
Overview
Position will provide instruction to the Truck Driving program by assisting with over the road, practice range, and classroom experiences associated with corporate driver training, continuing education and all students taking truck driving related coursework. The instructor must demonstrate a proficiency in skills as they relate to the operations of Class A (CDL-A) commercial vehicles and straight truck Commercial Driver’s License and Class B (CDL-B).
Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one, as well as group instruction of students in classroom and hands-on activities involving vehicles.
Facilitate student pre-trip inspection, road skills, basic and backing maneuvers, and shifting evaluations.
Maintain a high degree of attention safety to prevent damage to equipment, injury to students, staff and public.
Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices, and driving logs and road evaluations in compliance with FMCSA Entry Level Driver Training and Department of Transportation Standards.
Adapt lesson plans to meet student needs to ensure success within the areas of instruction.
Identify students needing assistances and refer students with problems to Student Services. Cooperate with Student Services and Academic Support Division staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
Remain current of developments in the teaching field so that instruction provides for individual learning styles, uses the latest supportive technology and can utilize alternative delivery methods.
Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations to administration.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong understanding of CDL driving practices as outlined by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration, and ability to remain current on industry trends.
Exceptional customer services skills and ability to maintain working relationship with internal and external customers.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently with limited guidance and daily directions.
Ability to work portions of the day outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of over the road truck driving experience
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and maintain Fed-Med Card
Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
