The Outdoor Program with Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department offers an array of outdoor adventure and environmental education programs for coed youth groups and adults ranging in size from 6-15 participants along with a co-leader. Our programs highlight the natural beauty of the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia through: canoeing, kayaking, climbing, camping, caving, hiking, biking, and environmental education. The Camp Counselor for the Outdoor Division will be supervising a group of 6-15 participants in the Summer Outdoor Camp program, ages 11-16 yrs old, during day/night trips throughout the week, with a co-leader. They will assist the Program Supervisor with planning and carrying out activities associated with the camp, providing sound judgment and decision-making skills to ensure the safety of each participant, instruct/facilitate games, manage group dynamics and foster a safe and energetic atmosphere where participants can gain an appreciation for the natural world. Must be comfortable leading others in an outdoor setting with little to no facilities or amenities. Assists the Outdoor Supervisor with planning and carrying out activities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor and the general supervision of the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director and Director. Shifts: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PMSome evenings may be requiredThe Town of Blacksburg is an EEO Employer M/F/D/V
