The Transit Operations Supervisor Assistant functions as an office assistant in the Operations Division and provides operational support as needed. Position is responsible for dispatching transit vehicles, responding to collisions and incidents, and operating buses if necessary. Position will also ensure that shifts are filled for the next day and assist with shift changes. Work is performed under the supervision of the designated Operations Manager. This position is classified as an essential position during designated planned or unplanned events.
Shift: Varies. Includes but is not limited to afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Conducts Shift Changes and ensure all operators follow handbook policies and procedures
- Fills and/or drives open shifts
- Provides radio dispatch using applicable computer software
- Responds to and investigates collisions and incidents, alerting a Supervisor as soon as possible when necessary
- Provides guidance and support for all operators
- Maintains communication at all times and effectively communicates with all staff via phone, email, or other means
- Documents all extraordinary Operator events/incidents
- Provides customer service support when front desk reception is closed
- Handles opening/closing duties for Operations: unlocking facility and turn on all lights in office and restrooms
- Monitors Dispatch radio, scheduling software, and bus tracking program
- Updates and prints BT Demand Response Manifests; performs Access Demand Response Dispatch and Scheduling as needed
- Maintains, assigns, and tracks Dispatch portable radio inventory
- Collects, organizes, and distributes daily trip sheets and miscellaneous forms
- Sets up operator mailboxes with next day's paperwork
- Assigns vehicles for next day's operation
- Parks incoming buses
- Updates parking and assignment boards
- Updates all run sheets
- Emails day's events to appropriate staff
- Fully secures support vehicles and facility upon departure
- Performs other duties as needed by management
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public transit system administration
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of large scale operations
- General knowledge of business practices applicable to public transit system management
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of others
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing
- High school diploma or GED certification required and some public transportation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid commercial driver's license (Class B with Air Brakes and P endorsement) in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a satisfactory driving record
- This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing guidelines as set forth by the Federal Transit Administration and the US Department of Transportation in 49 CFR Part 40, and Part 655, as amended
- A pre-employment drug screening is required for this position
- Drug and alcohol testing guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration, will be followed during the employment period
- This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
