Job Summary:
The role of the Wastewater Plant Lab Technician is to perform all tasks necessary for the safe, efficient, and economic operation of the wastewater laboratory. This position is responsible for assuring that the operation of the wastewater laboratory meets or exceeds all State and Federal rules and regulations. Public health and safety are paramount in the performance of these duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following, however, other duties may be assigned or scheduled.
· Collect samples of wastewater.
· Conduct laboratory analysis by standard methods for various components (e.g. biochemical oxygen demand, settleable solids, pH, suspended solids, E.coli, ammonia, dissolved oxygen, MLSS and record flow) using various laboratory equipment and recorders.
· Log analytical data on daily worksheets (e.g. time, place, operator, and results).
· Calibrate instruments as required and document results.
· Aid in plant operations and process decisions.
· Assist staff in daily duties.
· Ability to track inventory and supplies.
· Ability to order needed materials.
· Ability to aid Supervisor/Director with their duties.
· Takes appropriate action after evaluating and interpreting results.
· Maintains laboratory testing apparatuses to ensure quality control and quality assurance.
· Record Keeping.
· Regular and reliable attendance (in all weather conditions)
Education, Experience and license’s:
· Preferably a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
· Microsoft office (Word/Excel) basic computer skills.
· Working knowledge of laboratory equipment.
· Previous experience with laboratory analysis.
· Working knowledge of wastewater treatment systems.
· Ability to follow and or create new work instructions.
· Mathematical ability to calculate data
· Ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
· Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others.
· Currently have or have the ability to obtain Wastewater license in the State of Virginia (Preferred)
· Must Possess Valid Virginia Driver’s license.
Physical Demands:
· Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach, talk, hear and use vision.
· Regularly required to stoop, bend, push, pull, climb, kneel, balance, or crawl.
· Occasionally required to lift and or move up to 50 pounds and possibly more.
· Occasionally exposed to wet, uneven, steep, and slippery conditions.
· Occasionally exposed to excessive heat and dust conditions.
· Occasionally exposed to extreme outside weather conditions.
· Will be required to work with or near hazardous chemicals.
· Occasionally required to use various common hand and power tools, wrenches, computers, radios, and phones.
· Will be exposed to Wastewater.
