As part of the Regional Security Services team, the Protective Services Supervisor (PSS) is an experienced security leader that will supervise a team of Healthcare Protection Officers (HPO) in Southern California for a leading healthcare provider. The PSS will lead an HPO team on their primary mission of protecting patients, visitors and staff from violence and criminal activity. In addition to their stated primary mission, the PSS will also perform professional and supervisory duties related to the HPO and Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) programs. Duties and responsibilities include:
Protective Services Operations
Manages the day-to-day operations of the HPO program for an assigned market, service area, or medical center including operational effectiveness, problem resolution, staffing, scheduling, supervision, and training. Responsible to ensure delivery of high-performance, professional, and technical security functions to protect patients, staff, physicians, visitors, property, and facilities from crime, disruptive activity, and workplace violence. Provides leadership, direction, and support to assigned HPO personnel and resources. When appropriate, the PSS will perform the role of an HPO including response to security incidents and workplace violence.
Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) and Threat Management (TM)
The PSS provides support to prevent, investigate and/or successfully resolve security threats and workplace violence. The PSS works in partnership with the site security management to ensure seamless coordination on all security related issues. The PSS manages assigned Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWV) programs to include providing Threat Assessment and Management (TAM) support to the service area or site Threat Management Team (TMT).

Responsibilities/Duties
Healthcare Protection Officer Program
- Assigns, directs, leads, and manages HPO’s to support effective performance and deliver exceptional service. Mentors and coaches' staff to ensure they successfully perform their job duties and work collaboratively with others.
- Reviews incident reports, investigations, and other documents for accuracy prior to submission; schedules and leads HPO meetings on a regular cadence; prepares rosters and schedules for operations by organizing shift changes, days off, sick leave, PTO, and training time; assures adequate coverage for assigned shifts; ensures completion of training requirements.
- Collaborates with the HPO Program Sr. Manager and Human Resources on officer conduct, performance, and attendance issues, onboarding and training; follows policy, constructive coaching and discipline process when necessary.
- Effectively communicates and supports local and system leadership decisions and initiatives, helping staff adapt to change through communication, education, problem resolution, and by setting a positive example.
- Develops and maintains a good working relationship with local law enforcement agencies and community partners.
Prevention of Workplace Violence Program
- Manages the PWV program at assigned service area or sites.
- Ensures workplace violence incidents are investigated and documented properly.
- Works with HPO’s to implement PWV mitigation and intentional rounding strategies, communication tools, and workflow processes including the development of safety and security plans for individuals identified as being high risk for violent behavior.
- Coordinates the delivery of PWV training to staff.
- Ensures regulatory requirements are met.
Threat Management
- Manages and/or supports investigations and classification of threats against staff, patients, or facilities.
- As directed, leads the TMT at the site level.
Program Management
- Develops, scopes, sequences, and tracks major programs, often with regulatory requirements
- Develops, scopes, sequences, and tracks incident reporting metrics that drive departmental goals and contribute to change management strategies
- Public speaking/training/teaching
- Ensures compliance with federal and state security and risk regulations including Joint Commission, CMS, HIPAA; other state laws related to healthcare security; and the organization's security services-related policies and procedures
- Fosters a culture of execution, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team
- Collaborates congenially and contributes to a climate of cooperation across the department
- Works effectively in a consensus-driven, values-based organization
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated success working in a highly regulated work environment
- Demonstrated security leadership in a healthcare environment
- Demonstrated training delivery, teaching, and curriculum development expertise
- Must be knowledgeable of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and mitigating security risk and workplace violence in diverse locations.
- Must effectively manage subordinates
- Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and respond to changing demands from multiple sources in a fast-paced environment
- Project management experience
- Database management experience
- PC skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Required Experience:
- 5 years Security, military, or law enforcement related experience
- 3 Healthcare security lead experiencePreferred Education
- Security Management, Organizational Leadership, or similar field
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to pass physical aptitude test (PAT) which may include timed push-ups, sit-ups, physical agility assessment, and a life-sized dummy drag.
- Valid Driver’s License
- California Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS) Guard Card
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs or more

- Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
- Professional Certified Investigator (PCI)
