Description:The position of Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Director is a full year assignment established by the School Committee and appointed by the Superintendent-Director. The Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Director provides educational leadership and vision for the District’s curriculum initiatives and instructional practices. The Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Director promotes high quality educational programming for all academic and career technical areas and monitors student outcomes to ensure achievement in all areas and to assess teacher effectiveness. The Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Director serves as a confidential appointee and reports to the Superintendent-Director. A major component of this role focuses upon the transition of the Superintendent-Director’s vision into reality. Responsibilities: District and Administrative Leadership •Works in close cohesion with the Superintendent-Director on district wide initiatives. •Possesses a strong working knowledge of the annual school budget and assists the Superintendent-Director with budget presentations as well as representing the District at member town meetings. •Attends designated meetings of the School Committee and subcommittees as needed. •Promotes principles of community involvement and responsibility, ethical behavior and leadership by example. •Establishes procedures that assure compliance and consistency with School Committee policies, administrative directives, negotiated agreements and statutes/regulations that pertain to public education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. •Completes annual reports as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. •Communicates with the Superintendent-Director about system-wide assessments of programs, curricula, and personnel matters. •Participates in state and regional educational endeavors designed to support career technical education. •Supervises and evaluates administrative personnel including the Academic Curriculum Coordinator(s), Vocational Director(s), and other District employees whom have programmatic oversight. •Assists in the development and presentation of the annual budget. •Participates in the development and execution of the District’s Master Plan. •Makes recommendations for building and grounds use, maintenance, improvements and repairs. •Cultivates parent, business, member town, community and regional partnerships that provide enrichment opportunities for students. •Creates and maintains channels of communication with all members and clients of the school community to ensure progress and a quality school environment. •Coordinates activities, programs and services made available to the public via the resources of the system. •Oversees all adult evening school programming (Moonlight, CTI, etc.). •Is visible at school and community events in an effort to promote the District. •Promotes and protects the interests of the school district at all times. Curriculum and Instructional Leadership •The Assistant Superintendent-Curriculum Director provides strategic leadership in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. •Shapes agendas and conducts instructional team meetings aimed at providing strategic leadership in curriculum, instruction and assessment. •Provides recommendations to the various coordinators on maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of technical systems used by the District (Canvas, PowerSchool, CTE-360, etc.). •Conducts analyses of State and District-mandated testing and prepares reports for the Superintendent-Director regarding student performance and recommendations for improvement. •Ensures the school meets or surpasses minimum state requirements relative to time and learning. •Improves and oversees a master schedule for teachers and students that fulfills educational objectives and district needs. •Conducts long-range collaborative planning for all academic and career technical programs. •Identifies and implements cost-effective instructional practices. •Collaborates in the preparation, proposal and implementation of educational grants. •Takes action on annual instructional budget design and requisitions for supplies and materials relative to the operation of the school building and learning activities. •Works effectively with other administrators and supervisors to ensure quality instruction. •Oversees the development and implementation of curriculum in accordance with academic and career technical state standards. •Establishes benchmarks and standards for measured improvement of achievement and instruction. •Works with various coordinators to establish and monitor extra student educational opportunities and programs such as before/after school remediation classes, summer/Saturday school, AP classes, MCAS, SAT/ACT preparation courses. •Forms task forces to address important system wide issues and develops recommendations to the Superintendent-Director. Staff and Student Leadership •Encourages an environment that is conducive to the development of positive gender, racial, ethnic, and individual identity, and that is respectful of individual differences. •Promotes the expansion of the use of technologies in preparation for employment opportunities in the twenty-first century. •Provides and monitors on-going curriculum development and professional development opportunities that enhance a learning environment in support of District goals. •Supervises and evaluates management team members in the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities, specifically, curriculum development, professional development, staff evaluations, student assessment, program assessment and goal setting. •Maintains up-to-date position descriptions, duties and responsibilities as appropriate. •Works with staff members to implement and evaluate instructional programs and to interpret data to improve teaching and learning. •Provides annual staff assessment reports to the Superintendent-Director. •Protects and preserves individual rights and responsibilities at all times. Undertakes all other assignments as directed by the Superintendent-Director. Personal Commitments •Agrees to complete sixty (60) hours of professional development per year. •Stays current with innovative educational organization, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulation, technology, pedagogy, law, and school safety. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. •Master or Doctoral degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field. •Possess the necessary credentials as required for certification as Assistant Superintendent-Director of a Regional Vocational Technical School District by statutes under M.G.L. Chapter 74 as amended within Chapter 731, and Ch. 71. •Substantial graduate study in educational administration, curriculum and instruction. •Minimum of at least seven year’s exemplary performance and demonstrated leadership in an administrative position such as a high school principal, assistant principal, vocational director or a position of comparable leadership and scope needed to fulfill all duties and responsibilities commensurate with this position. •Possess a working knowledge of both academic and career technical frameworks, requirements and governance policies. •Personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. •The candidate must be able to inspire excellence, achieve consensus and respond effectively to the system’s mission with humor and enthusiasm. •Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may find appropriate and acceptable.
