Position Description –Test Engineer
Blackwater Technical Services is arapidly growing independent ISO 17025 certified laboratory performing product certification testing for Miami-Dade, Florida Building Code, and other governing organizations.
Blackwater is in need of an entry level Test Engineer to oversee test execution and report development for structural and impact testing for fenestration systems. Interest or experience in building construction, specifically the fenestration and glazing industry, including window walls, curtain walls, railings, siding / cladding products, roll-down shutters, all types of residential and commercial doors and windows (pivot, sliding, casement, etc) is desired. Prior laboratory and / or construction experience is desired, but candidate will be trained in accordance with the Blackwater Quality Assurance Manual. The successful applicant will have customer service, supervisory, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with the ability to problem solve in a fast paced, hands-on shop environment with limited supervision.
Responsibilities include :
1. Development of laboratory test plans to execute the test requirements as detailed by the customer and associated national standards.
2. Proposal development
3. Design and planning of test fixtures, chambers, and testing schedules
4. Develop test procedures and training for implementation of new test standards
5. Evaluate and develop necessary equipment and requirements for business expansion plans
6. Research and select test equipment for process improvement and / or testing equipment
replacement
7. Witness test performance, data recording, and sample storage
8. Review and evaluate performance of test specimens in accordance with requirements
9. Write test reports documenting the test results and conclusions
10. Assist with maintenance of Quality Assurance records
11. Oversee internal training, including development / revision of training documentation
12. Assist President, Business Operation Manager, and General Manager as necessary.
Skills / Experience Requirements :
1. Associates Degree / Certificate or Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology in mechanical, civil / structural, chemical, or building construction fields of study.
2. Ability to read blueprints and product assembly drawings
3. Technical writing skills
4. Prior construction experience and general mechanical / equipment knowledge is a plus.
5. Microsoft Office Suite
