What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Science Laboratory Technician position at Blackwood Campus?
POSITION GOALS:

- To provide support for the chemistry laboratories at Camden County College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio economic backgrounds.
- Ensure the well being and proper condition of chemistry and physics laboratories, and to work independently.
- Serve as initial contact person for all academic chemical safety issues.
- Prepare all solutions and have ready all chemicals and equipment needed for laboratory sessions for all chemistry classes.
- Assist with the setup of physics lab equipment, as needed.
- Supervise the hiring of laboratory assistants and train new workers to perform necessary laboratory tasks
- Maintain laboratory equipment for chemistry and physics labs on a twelve-month basis.
- Maintain an inventory of all instruments, equipment, materials, and chemicals in laboratories, stockrooms, and lab stations for both chemistry and physics.
- Supervise within the Physical Science department the distribution and return of instruments, equipment and materials that are borrowed by and from the various departments of the College.
- Prepare purchase order requisitions and purchase supplies which cannot be obtained through supply houses; example: vinegar for a titration.
- Calibrate and make minor repairs on equipment and arrange for major maintenance and repairs when necessary.
- Aid in setting up equipment for classroom demonstrations.
- Maintain a file of literature and instructional manuals on the equipment assigned to the department.
- Maintain a catalog file to facilitate identification and purchasing of new equipment.
- Keep lab in a clean, safe working order.
- Prepare a list of supply items to be put on bid and or included in annual budgets in consultation with the faculty
- Police lab stations and maintain complete inventory of lab equipment in each station.
- Receive and maintain files on all purchases.
- Facilitate collection of all hazardous waste and coordinate quarterly hazardous waste pick-up for all academic departments.
- Be a member of the Academic Safety Committee.
- Perform all chemistry laboratory inspections as part of the safety team.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets for laboratory chemicals and ensure they are current for the Physical Science Department.
- Attend all federally or NJ State mandated training to include, but not limited to, Right-To-Know and Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Comply with all safety, fire and smoking regulations.
- Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in science, Bachelor’s degree in science preferred.
- Completion of courses in Chemistry I & II, Organic Chemistry I & II, and Physics I & Physics II.
- Experience in working in a laboratory setting.
- Experience in the safe handling and disposal of chemicals is a plus.
Salary : $45,000 - $50,000
