Rowing Coach

Blair Crew is seeking experienced crew coaches and experienced rowers to help coach a high school rowing team. This is a part-time, primarily after-school coaching position.

The team practices just outside Washington DC on the Anacostia River at Bladensburg Waterfront Park in Bladensburg, MD, in fall and spring. The spring season runs from the last week in February through the middle of May and the fall season starts mid August and runs through early November. We practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 430-7pm and Saturdays from 9am-12pm. We also hold fitness training at the Silver Spring, MD YMCA, typically on Tuesdays from 345pm to 515pm, and at the same times Monday through Friday during the winter. The team participates in several weekend regattas during the spring and fall in the DC area as well as in PA, NJ, DE, and VA.

Coaches are paid monthly during the fall and spring season at a rate of $800-1200 per month plus additional compensation and lodging for attending regattas. In the offseason, coaches are paid at a rate of approximately $25/hour. Rates of pay are negotiable and are based on experience and level of assigned responsibility. While coaches are not expected to attend every single practice or regatta, a strong commitment to the team and your rowers is important for the success of the club. We expect coaches to consistently attend water practices, and coaches rotate attendance to lead land practices at the YMCA.

The club typically registers 40-50 rowers per season, with 4-5 coaches, one serving as head coach/director of rowing, and the others each supporting a boys' or girls' varsity or novice boat.

The club pays for coaching certification and training courses.
