Job Title: Summer Day Camp Counselor
Status: Full-Time or Part-Time (seasonal)
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. SDC Counselors create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervises assigned group of children.
2. Supports SDC Director/Manager in planning and implementation of program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
4. Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and trainings.
5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
6. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. At least 18 years of age
2. Previous experience working with children aged 4-12 years, preferably in a day camp setting
3. Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting required
4. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art
5. Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours
6. Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
