What are the responsibilities and job description for the Before and After School Program Staff position at Blair Regional YMCA?
The Blair Regional YMCA is seeking staff for the Before & After School Program for the remainder of the school year (summer work opportunities may be available). Two shifts available: 6:30AM-8:30AM and 3:30PM-5:30PM, Monday through Friday. Applicant can apply for one or both shifts. Preference will be given to applicants who are available for both shifts. Additional hours may be available to a qualified applicant who is interested in working both shifts and planning activities (up to 30 hours maximum per week).
Responsible for the following:
- Responsible for the overall supervision of a large group of children between the ages of 5-12.
- Ensuring the care, safety, and well being of all the children in the group- at all times.
- Implementing and participating in planned activities that fit children’s needs and interests.
- Effective communication, verbally and in writing, with parents throughout the year and during parent-teacher conferences.
SKILLS:
- An understanding of school-age growth and development.
- Ability to apply this understanding to appropriate activities.
- Ability to work with school-age children in a calm, positive way
- Ability to meet social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual school-age children.
- Ability to oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time.
- Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and pleasant environment.
- General knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid.
- Ability to maintain a positive relationship with children, co-workers, and parents.
EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in education or human service field -OR-
- Associate degree in education or a related field plus two years of experience
- Prior experience working with school-age children preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Act 33/35 clearances (child abuse and state police criminal), FBI clearance
- Health assessment
- Two written references
- Available to work both AM or PM shift Monday-Friday, school holidays, and in-service days
- Pre-Service Training and additional trainings required by the Department of Human Services
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 30 per week
