Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and coordinating traffic control for our work zones in accordance with company standards and in conformance with the MUTCD. The ideal candidate will have prior traffic control experience and an understanding of paving operations. Blaktop, Inc. and its sister company, Twin State Sand & Gravel, are locally owned and family run businesses that have been in operation for over 70 years. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in building and maintaining our nation’s infrastructure. Job is seasonal, typically May thru November.
Duties, Responsibilities, & Requirements
- Comply with safety rules, the MUTCD, & work in a safe manner.
- Show up to work at scheduled time.
- Set up and take down sign packages in a timely manner.
- Set out cones and mark out hazards such as overhead powerlines.
- Coordinate traffic control personnel and activities to ensure a safe work zone.
- Work and communicate with the jobsite Foreman, Paving Superintendent, and Safety Director.
- Supervise flaggers and provide flaggers breaks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively with others as a member of a team.
- Ability to take direction from others.
- Ability to direct others.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads, climb ladders, and perform manual labor tasks.
- Safety conscious.
- Good work ethic.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card required.
- Prior flagging experience preferred.
- Flagger certification preferred.
- DOT Medical Card preferred.
Work Environment
- Work will occur outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
- Will often be required to work long hours and sometimes nights and weekends.
- Work environment is in a road construction setting, which includes exposure to various hazards such as dust, vehicle traffic, elevated noise levels, etc.
