Primary Purpose:
Provide coaching and support to classroom teachers to ensure the continuous development of instructional skills among assigned teachers. Evaluate the performance of assigned classroom teachers.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum implementation
Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the state testing program and accountability system
Experience:
Five years of teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
- Reinforce expectations for staff performance concerning instructional strategies and classroom management.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members.
- Evaluate the curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned subject area based on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes as needed.
- Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies.
School/Organizational Improvement
- Help the principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
Staff Development
- Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher’s individual professional development and student learning.
- Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through coaching and collaborative problem solving.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom.
- Evaluate teacher effectiveness under established district programs.
- Assist the principal in planning and provide appropriate staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff.
Personnel Management
- Observe employee performance, record observation, and conduct evaluation conferences as needed for the designated teacher appraisal system.
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Testing
- Implement procedures for ensuring security and confidentiality of state-mandated testing programs and other assessments. Direct and oversee test implementation and monitor testing activities to ensure that procedures are followed, and deadlines met.
- Provide timely support for testing administrators.
- Consult with staff to provide appropriate testing accommodation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students and students receiving special services.
- Identify, investigate, and address testing irregularities. Report discrepancies and disciplinary actions taken against students as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct the work of campus test administrators and others assigned to conduct tests.
