Veterinary Assistant

We are a 3 doctor mixed animal practice and boarding facility located in Blanco, TX. We are searching for a detailed-oriented person to join our team. Previous AVImark experience is preferred. We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to work alongside our Doctors and Technicians, with room to grow. This is a great opportunity for those wanting to go into Vet School or Vet Tech school!

The ideal applicant should have a strong work ethic and be able to work with our team. A positive attitude, great communication skills, and experience in animal handling is a must. Compassion to the pet(s) and people (clients and staff), as well as maintaining composure under stress are musts.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Assist doctors/technicians in exam rooms by getting a TPR, taking notes during the exam, filling medications as needed

· Appropriate animal restraint

· Keep exam/treatment/surgery rooms stocked, organized and clean

· Client education: Heartworm and flea preventive, vaccine schedules, feeding, etc.

· Assist doctors with in-patient care: medications, vaccinations, obtaining blood, urine, fecal samples, running in house laboratory tests, radiographs, preparing samples for out of house laboratory testing, and emergency care

· Assist doctors with surgeries, including monitoring patients of vitals, preparations, and recovery

· Enters all charges for every patient seen by the doctor; discharge patients with routine procedures; make sure medications went home with patients; make post-surgery/follow up calls to clients

· Assist in keeping the hospital clean and disinfected: such as treatment cages, laundry, floor, etc.

· Answer phones as needed and help receptionists

· Basic tech procedures - toenail trims, ear cleaning, express anal glands, suture removal, skin scrapings, etc.

· Must be able to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines while working in a potentially high pace environment

· Experience handling Large Animals (equine, bovine, exotics, etc.) is a plus

· Greet clients with a smile

· Check in/out clients as needed

· Prepare clients for exams (updating info, records, medications, etc)

· Walk/water/feed/medicate boarding/hospitalized pets

· Ensuring all pets are comfortable with their stay

· Housecleaning duties

· May be asked to be available to work rotating Saturdays/Holidays/Overnight On-Call Shifts
