Associate Attorney Position Available

Blau & Hynson, PLLC, is a law firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, that concentrates on state and federal criminal appeals and post-conviction litigation throughout the State. The firm is currently accepting applications for an Associate Attorney position. The Associate Attorney will support two partners and will be expected to independently handle criminal appellate and post-conviction matters in state and federal court.  Ideal applicants will have prior criminal appellate, criminal post-conviction, and / or criminal trial experience. The firm will also support the Associate Attorney if they wish to pursue trial-level criminal-defense work, but the Associate Attorney will be expected to focus most of their practice on appellate and post-conviction work.

Associate Attorney Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with prospective client intake and consultations.
  • Review and investigate criminal cases for appellate and post-conviction relief.
  • Represent clients in state and federal criminal appellate and post-conviction litigation.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents, including briefs, motions, and other pleadings.
  • Appear in appellate courts for oral argument and trial courts for post-conviction litigation and other criminal matters.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and families, courts, prosecutors, firm partners, and staff.

Associate Attorney Requirements and Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
  • 1-3 years’ experience practicing criminal law, preferably criminal appellate and / or post-conviction litigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research, analytical, and advocacy abilities.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary range of $55,000 to $65,000 depending on experience.

  • Payment for CLEs, memberships, and other professional-development fees.
  • Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
