Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, meetings, events, and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and teachers, staff, peers, and other individuals within the school community.
- Adapt and modify instructional materials to meet the unique needs of students with hearing impairments.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure effective inclusion and participation of students in academic and social activities.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with hearing impairments, promoting their independence and self-advocacy skills.
- Maintain accurate records of services provided and student progress.
- Attend professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other sign language systems.
- Solid understanding of deaf culture, educational practices, and the needs of individuals with hearing impairments.
- Ability to interpret complex subject matter, including technical terminology, within an educational setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents to support the educational goals of students.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the needs of students and work in various educational settings.
- Prior experience working as a sign language interpreter in a school or with school aged kids.
