Under the direct supervision of the Center Director, the infant/toddler teacher shall be responsible for maintaining the children’s program by:

  • Assessing each child’s level of development and developing short and long-range goals for each child, while planning daily activities based on the set goals.
  • Plan and implement lesson plan activities, weekly curriculum, and experiences that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Directing daily classroom activities using positive guidance techniques.
  • Evaluating each child’s progress regularly, maintaining written records, and using this information to conduct parent conferences.
  • Respond quickly to children’s different and personal needs, verbal and non-verbal cues, temperament, abilities, and culture.
  • Plans, implements, and supervises appropriate curriculum for the children providing experiences in all areas, such as art, music, reading, science, math, etc., and meeting timelines set by the director.
  • Plans, implements, and supervises activities that promote healthy development of children in all areas – physical and motor, cognitive and language, and social and emotional learning.
  • Review and carry out health plans and or allergy action plans for any special diets, allergies, medication administration, etc.
  • Provide direct supervision, training, guidance, leadership, and technical assistance to the assigned assistant toddler teacher.
  • Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development practices. This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, napping, outside play, and transitioning between activities.
  • Operate the classroom in compliance with the Texas Minimum Standards and the Texas Rising Star Program.
  • Effective communication with parents and families regarding their child’s day.
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information at all times.
  • Maintain written records of the child’s progress or accident/incident reports.
  • Observe children to detect signs of illness, injury, abuse, neglect, emotional disturbance, or other special needs, and report these signs immediately to the Director.
  • Use equipment and supplies safely and conscientiously, keeping the physical environment clean and orderly.
  • Greet children and parents in a warm and friendly manner upon arrival each morning.
  • Inspect the school site and equipment for potential safety hazards; taking corrective action or informing the Director to prevent injuries.
  • Contribute to the operation of the center by participating in staff meetings and sharing information gained through attendance at workshops and professional reading.
  • Abides by the Texas Minimum Standards and Center policies and procedures, while upholding the philosophy of the Center in the classroom with the children, staff, and parents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of experience in an early childhood program serving infants and toddlers in a developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain 24 Pre-Service hours and the required 30 clock hours of Early Childhood Education for The Texas Rising Star Program
  • Infant and child CPR and First Aid
  • SIDS, Shaken Baby, and Brain Development Training
  • Criminal History Check
  • Valid Finger Prints

Other Requirements

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must hold Infant and Child CPR and First Aid certification and renew upon expiration.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
