The primary job of the Volunteer Coordinator is to help the Director pursue the mission of Blessings Abound: a Christian not-for-profit dedicated to helping those in need through the resale and redistribution of donated items.
The Volunteer Coordinator (herein “Vol Coor”) needs to be confident, reliable, and able to multi-task effectively. The ability to function in a team environment is essential as Blessings Abound is run almost exclusively by volunteers. By nature, Blessings Abound has a lot of clutter. Vol Coor needs to be comfortable in an environment with a tremendous variety of inventory.
Vol Coor will help Director as needed, including volunteer recruiting, scheduling, coordination, floor supervision, utilizing volunteers for product placement, donation receipt, donation processing, cashiering and assistance, as well as other duties as assigned.
- Lead volunteer recruitment, training, orientation, and coordination of volunteer activities
- Coordinate volunteer pool of cashiers in coordination with lead cashier
- Maintain visible awareness of donation processing and necessary projects for volunteers
- Volunteers are utilized for donation processing, store merchandising, cleaning, organizing, and administration. Vol Coor will need to have ongoing awareness of necessary tasks to effectively assign volunteers.
- Involvement in volunteer communications, including social media posting.
- Assist Staff to oversee store cleanliness and volunteer safety
- Supervise core base of volunteers, community service volunteers (i.e. school, court), one-time groups and, including SER participants or other such programs
- Manage volunteer database and volunteer time tracking (tasks can be completed by volunteers)
- Other duties as assigned by Director
- This job operates in a retail environment with work room donation processing
- The environment is often higher or lower than room temperature due to open dock doors in back room
- Vol Coor will receive regular questions and feedback from volunteers, shoppers and donors.
- Strong communication skills. Ability to deal with volunteers from all walks.
- Respectful of all people, including donors, shoppers and volunteers. Energized by positive people interaction.
- Interest in working for a not-for-profit
- Basic computer skills are required, including word processing, spreadsheets, basic layout of flyers/PR materials, and a basic understanding of social media.
- Trustworthy to handle high-value collectibles, cash drawers and access to safe.
- A goal orientation and competitive spirit is helpful.
- A high school diploma is required.
- Ability to handle bags of clothing and boxes of misc. donations
- Frequent standing and walking. The Vol Coor position includes regular physical movement and handling of donations.
- Current store hours are 9am-6pm M-F, 9am-4pm SAT. Vol Coor is expected to coordinate store coverage with Director and other Staff
- Reliable transportation
- Attendance is an essential function of this position
- Vol Coor may be asked to assist with store opening, closing, and money handling
- Vol Coor may be involved in customer issues and complaint resolution
Vol Coor is a Full-time, salaried position
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $44,000.00 per year
