Job Type Full-timeDescriptionSummary : The Family Services Worker conducts outreach and develops community partnerships to recruit families to achieve program enrollment goals for Head Start and State Preschool programs and to assure that families are fully engaged in utilizing health, special needs, nutrition, social services, parent involvement and mental health services based on family strengths, concerns, needs and priorities. Works with multidisciplinary teams, teaching staff, and content area specialists to achieve goals and prepares a variety of case records and reports.Supervisory Responsibilities : NoneRequirementsEssential Duties and Responsibilities include the following : Recruits families for Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Completes enrollment for families assigned to caseload and reports vacancy information in a time manner to maintain full enrollment. Conducts strength and needs assessments for assigned families, infants and children. Identifies self-sufficiency goals as part of individualized health, nutrition and family support development plans. Enhances parent skills and understanding regarding personal engagement and activities that promote literacy. Provides resources and referrals to families based on their needs.Facilitates communication between families and content area specialists. Collaborates with Assistant Director, Family Services (AD) and Program Director to plan and conduct parent committee meetings. Develops and maintains case notes and records; prepares periodic reports as required. Monitors student attendance and follows up with families to ensure that children attend class on a regular basis to meet program requirements. Assists with family program eligibility assessments, orientations, and service referrals. Updates Family Development Agreement by defining goals, identifying and meeting milestones, collecting and disseminating information and materials pertaining to local services available to families, and assembling required background information on the family using computerized data. Attends orientations, in-service training, educational programs, community meetings, conferences, and workshops as assigned. Assists the AD with transitions in and out of programs and into Head Start.Establishes and maintains communication between the family, staff, and management team members. Performs growth assessments, and hearing and vision screenings, as needed.Follows up with families on all health, dental, and other related information to maintain deadlines.Conducts home visits as necessary. Plans and facilitates family meetings to encourage active participation.Performs additional related duties as assigned.Qualifications & Experience : One (1) to three (3) years of experience involving integrated family, student, and community services involving Head Start, Early Head Start, and related types of programs.Associate's Degree or a Family Development Credential and high school diploma or GED.Ability to speak in English and Spanish required.Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook required. Experience with ChildPlus database preferred.Other Requirements : Must possess and maintain criminal background clearance.Must meet immunization requirements including pertussis, measles, and flu, Covid-19 vaccination (including booster), clear health exam, and proof of TB clearance.Valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation, as this position requires travel for training, meetings and other events.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive.
