The position will function under the general supervision of the Accounting Director and involve detailed accounting duties that involve a high level of complexity. The Accountant II assists in analyzing, reconciling, recording and preparing financial transactions and reports for various activity, including capital funding, projects and fixed assets. The accountant applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and follows internal controls within all assigned areas.
Required Quals Summary
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field
- 3 years of responsible work experience in accounting positions; preferably in an educational institution, state agency, or auditing

This is a 12 month, benefits eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full time employees, 50% for dependents, and two times your annual salary in life insurance benefits. Principal Accountabilities
Principal Accountabilities
- Oversees the financial integrity of the college’s fixed assets and manages property inventory.
- Analyzes, processes, and audits a variety of complex department financial transactions connected to a diverse set of funding sources.
- Maintains the fixed asset module, which involves monitoring general ledger activity for investments in plant assets, additions and dispositions, and preparing journal entries as needed monthly, quarterly, and at year-end.
- Communicates with directors and managers regarding capital purchases and accurate asset information.
- Creates and properly affixes asset tags to designated assets and equipment, replaces tags, maintains asset records and performs field inventories by physically locating and identifying assets, updates asset records, investigates discrepancies and prepares loss or disposal reports.
- Assists with the preparation of financial audits, both internal and external, and provides financial expertise, financial management reports, analytical data and associated financial services.
- Requires ability to understand and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board reporting requirements, and other local, state, and federal guidelines as they relate to fixed asset management.
- Reviews all lease agreements and subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITA) to measure the lease/subscription assets and liabilities to appropriately account for these agreements in the lease management software in accordance with GAAP and GASB pronouncements.
- Coordinates the disposal of the college’s fixed assets and capital property.
- Performs other related tasks and projects as assigned.
