Estimating Manager
Summary/Objective:
Bliss Products is searching for an Estimating Manager of exceptional organization and drive to augment our already thriving team. Your role will ensure the quality and success of various Bliss projects, such as playgrounds, shade structures, splash pads, and beyond.
Your collaborations will be extensive and varied, spanning Bliss, municipalities, specifiers like engineers and landscape architects, General Contractors, and subcontractors right from the RFP to hand off to sales. Based in our Lithia Springs, GA office, you'll primarily manage bids and quotes across the southern US.

As an Estimating Manager at Bliss Products, you can anticipate working with teams of various sizes and constantly fluctuating budgets. A solid understanding of playgrounds, shades & shelters, plumbing, excavation, and concrete work, superb interpersonal skills, and a consistent approach to cost management are paramount.
Success as an Estimating Manager at Bliss Products hinges on your problem-solving capabilities. The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional analytical and time-management skills, a knack for identifying and utilizing the unique skills and talents of workers and subcontractors, a basic knowledge of project management software, and adherence to safety and quality construction standards.
Your role involves overseeing and managing the bid and estimation process independently, seeking guidance only when faced with new challenges. This position ensures that bids are properly planned, managed and estimated accurately to reduce risk. The Estimating Manager coordinates different trades, deliverables, and daily tasks to keep projects moving ahead. You're expected to efficiently manage multiple bids and estimation tasks, ranging from smaller quotes to large-scale government bids. The responsibility for problem-solving and ensuring project success ultimately lies with you as the Estimating Manager.
Estimating Manager Responsibilities Include:
1. Competitive Bid Leadership
- Drive Competitive Advantage: Develop pricing strategies that are both aggressive and aligned with market conditions to win projects while ensuring profitability.
- Cost Optimization: Leverage innovative approaches to analyze costs, seek efficiencies, and negotiate better pricing with vendors and subcontractors.
2. Team Development
- Lead and manage a team of three estimators.
- Provide training and mentorship to develop team skills.
3. Bid Management:
- Manage the end-to-end bid cycle for government projects across 11 states.
- Create project documents to accurately estimate costs for playgrounds, splash pads, shade structures, and related amenities.
- Oversee bid compilation, ensuring compliance with government and industry standards.
4. Collaboration:
- Assist the sales team in preparing accurate and timely customer quotes.
- Work closely with subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to gather necessary information and pricing.
5. Subcontractor Sourcing:
- Identify, qualify, and maintain relationships with subcontractors in various trades, including civil, demolition, landscaping, and plumbing.
6. Strategic Risk Management:
- Analyze potential risks in bids and create strategies to mitigate them, ensuring alignment with company risk tolerance and profitability goals.
- Collaborate with leadership to align bidding strategies with business objectives.
7. Budget Oversight:
- Collaborate with the President to ensure estimates align with project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Provide detailed cost breakdowns for internal reviews and approvals.
8. Process Improvement:
- Develop and refine estimation tools, templates, and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the estimation team.
9. Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all bids comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of estimates, bid submissions, and post-bid evaluations for future reference.
10. Sales Enablement
- Act as a critical contributor to the company's sales success by ensuring every bid meets the client's expectations for quality, timeliness, and cost-efficiency.
- Represent Bliss Products at pre-bid meetings and client presentations, advocating for our expertise and solutions.
Required Education and Experience:
1. Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of construction estimating experience, preferably including government projects.
- Previous experience with recreational or landscape projects, such as playgrounds, splash pads, or shade structures is preferred but not required.
- Knowledgeable in civil construction, demolition, landscaping, and plumbing.
2. Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other data management tools.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, contracts, and specifications.
- Experience with project management and estimating software is preferred.
3. Leadership and Strategy
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving high-performance results under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to align project estimates with broader financial and sales goals.
4. Soft Skills:
- Exceptional negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing from subcontractors and vendors.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality work.
- Strong presentation skills to clearly communicate bid details to internal stakeholders and clients.

- Ability to troubleshoot discrepancies in bids and quickly develop alternative solutions.
