What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Grant Writer position at BLOC Ministries?
Overview of BLOC:
We are an inner city faith based non profit that lives and works in the neighborhoods we serve. Our mission exists to build relationships with our neighbors and share hope in brokenness. We target neighborhoods that are underserved. We have a staff size of about 80 where we have after school programs, sports performance center, houses for women in sex trafficking, men and women transitional homes, two coffee shops, screen printing, and other forms of ministry to love our neighbors.
About the Role:
The role of Assistant Grant Writer involves researching funding sources, writing proposals and assisting with reporting requirements once funding is secured. This person should have strong research skills to identify new funding sources and be an intelligent writer who knows how to properly appeal to the funding organizations. They will help prepare proposals and grant applications, research, identify, develop and respond to public and private grant opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regularly research and identify public and private funding opportunities
- Keep funder research (deadlines, priority areas, etc.) up to date
- Assist with preparing, submitting and managing grant proposals
- Compile data for use in creating grant applications
- All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of two years writing experience
- Experience working in deadline-driven environments
- Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Skills, Knowledge and Attributes
- Strong written communication skills; ability to help write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel) and database management skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Strong contributor in team environments
