What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Grower position at Bloch's Farm?
The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about plants and interested in all aspects of greenhouse operations and landscaping. We require all applicants to have a turf and landscape pesticide applicators license. The ability to operate machinery (trucks, tractors, skid loaders ect.) is a plus. Applicants must be physically fit enough to work long hours outdoors, bending, walking, and moving plants around. They must be able to properly identify trees, shrubs and perennials, as well as natives and invasive weeds. But the most important qualities we look for in our staff here at Bloch’s Farm is the willingness to learn, follow directions, and work well with others. We operate as a very close team.
The duties of an Assistant Grower include all aspects of plant health care such as planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, taking inventory, coordinating orders, pulling plants for landscape jobs, pricing and tagging, monitoring for insects and diseases, all aspects of an IPM program. Office work including writing articles for the local paper, answering customer request, excel spreadsheets. Customer service skills are a must, and willingness to do a wide variety of task. There are also many opportunities to do seminars and presentations here on the farm and for local gardening clubs and students. Company travel to Trade Shows.
