Join Block Institute as we launch our Community Habilitation Residential Program to provide meaningful, person-centered services to individuals residing in our residences who are unable to attend traditional day programs.
Why Does the Program Exist?
The Community Habilitation Residential Program was created by Block Institute to meet the unique needs of individuals in our residences who are behaviorally challenged, medically frail, and/or elderly. These individuals require specialized support to thrive in their daily lives, and this program provides a tailored alternative to traditional day programs.
Through this program, participants receive personalized, person-centered services that enhance their independence, build essential life skills, and foster meaningful connections within their communities. This initiative reflects Block Institute’s commitment to empowering individuals and improving their quality of life through innovative and compassionate care.
What Makes This Role Special?
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in this program, you will play a vital role in shaping positive experiences for participants. Your creativity, empathy, and ability to design engaging activities will ensure that each individual receives the support they need to achieve their personal goals and enjoy fulfilling, purposeful days.
Schedule
The program operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, providing structure and consistency for participants while maintaining work-life balance for staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Person-Centered Support: Develop and implement creative, individualized activities that align with participants’ goals and interests.
- Skill Development: Assist with daily living skills, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks, promoting independence.
- Community Inclusion: Encourage and accompany individuals to participate in community activities and social engagements.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of progress, activities, and any changes in behavior or health.
- Empowerment: Foster independence and self-advocacy, helping individuals make choices about their daily routines and goals.
Qualifications

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proficiency in English is required to perform essential job functions, including preparing written reports, understanding safety instructions, and communicating with individuals we serve and your team members.
- Must hold the title of Direct Support Professional III (DSP III).
- Previous experience in human services is a plus, but training will be provided.
- Ability to pass background checks and meet all employment qualifications.
