Job Summary
The Corporate Accountant is responsible for managing the general ledger accounting process for assigned entities, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial records. This role involves daily accounting tasks, monthly closing procedures, and collaboration with the Corporate Controller to record and report financial transactions accurately. The Corporate Accountant will also handle annual reconciliations, special projects, and maintain compliance with GAAP principles and real estate regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger for assigned entities, including reviewing revenues, expenses, cash receipts, and disbursements.
- Daily Accounting Tasks: Monitor cash flow, prepare chargebacks, and ensure compliance with GAAP principles and real estate regulations.
- Monthly Close Procedures: Conduct thorough reviews of monthly general ledger activities, resolve discrepancies, and complete monthly closing processes.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting: Review, analyze, and adjust general ledger entries; communicate financial information and issues to the Corporate Controller.
- Accounts Receivable Monitoring: Monitor receivable balances and collaborate with Property Accountants to determine collectability.
- Software Proficiency: Ensure proficiency in all accounting software used for assigned entities.
- Compliance and Documentation: Familiarize with relevant management agreements, promissory notes, and broker agreements.
- Annual Reconciliations and Reporting: Prepare detailed yearend financial reconciliations and analyses for tax purposes, including 1099 preparation and broker activity reporting by state.
- Special Projects: Complete special projects as directed by the Corporate Controller.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Experience in commercial real estate property management a plus.
- Experience with Yardi software a plus.
- Excellent communication skills; written and verbal.
