Summary
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the daily activities in a section of the laboratory. Supervises and guides personnel under his/her direction, is a technical expert and runs that section following CAP, CLIA and CLSI standards and guidelines. Develops, in collaboration with the Manager, department goals and procedures.
- Performs all tasks and duties of a working technologist when necessary
- Responsible for the orientation, technical training and ongoing competency of section personnel, including the development and updating of a written section orientation for all new employees and students
- Utilizes continuous quality improvement techniques to develop and change processes within the section and actively participates in the QA/QC program and process
- Ensures that hospital and laboratory policies and procedures are effectively followed and that all customers utilizing the laboratory receive exemplary service
- In conjunction with the laboratory Safety Officer, observes and enforces health and safety regulations. Reports and corrects and hazards that exist and incorporates safety compliance into written procedures
- Displays a positive image to all customers including co-workers, vendors, hospital personnel, visitors and patients
REQUIREMENTS:
- Basic professional knowledge; equivalent to a Bachelor's degree; working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized field
- Education - Bachelor's degree - Medical Technology or Histotechnology
- 3-5 years of experience required
- SBB (ASCP) - Blood Bank only
- MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) required
