We have a wonderful new job opportunity for a program coordinator for the Specialist in Blood Bank Certification program at Bloodworks, ensuring effective communication and planning with staff involved in the training and with the students. Additionally, the individual in this role will teach theory and provide laboratory instruction for the Immunohematology portion of the Shoreline Community College MLT certification program and associate degree and bachelor’s degree equivalency training with qualified Bloodworks staff.   Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to: - As a Bloodworks Supervisor:   As a member of the Leadership Team (LT) Participate as a collaborative member of the LT to support leadership across the entire organization, in addition to providing leadership to the teams and functions reporting through you. Appropriately and responsibly serve as a roadworks / Organization in the representative of your interactions with employees, volunteers, vendors, donors, and others. As a leader of Bloodworks Provide timely and honest feedback to fellow managers regarding how the team functions. Challenge and offer support to fellow managers to ensure each department is contributing to the success of the organization. Ensure the safety of the workforce through the administration of safety policies and monitoring of safety incidents. Maintain confidentiality. Within the department In partnership with senior department leaders, assist in setting department direction, vision, values, goals, and objectives consistent with Bloodworks mission and strategic plan; consistently model values, and coach and mentor for same expectation. Contribute and build upon current practices and procedures in support of values, mission, and goals. Personally demonstrate and inspire a commitment to quality through compliance with laws, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and practices; ensure that department actions (self, staff, documentation, etc.) are consistent with this commitment. Hire, develop, and retain a successful team. With staff, determine performance goals and provide ongoing feedback. Monitor the successes and challenges of the team. Ensure the department supports a balance of employee personal and business goals. Ensure customer needs and expectations are met Adhere to the department budget and forecast Recommend and maintain proper staffing levels to carry out department objectives.s Recommend systems, resources, es, and procedures to achieve the department’s success.   Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer in providing quality educational programs to internal and external trainees. This may include obtaining CE accreditation for specific programs. Indirect reporting to the Program and Medical Directors of the SBB program and the Transfusion Service Laboratory Manager. Program Coordinator for the Bloodworks Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) program. Duties include: Participate as part of the committee responsible for the program, including student selection and admission process, coordination of lectures, and clinical rotations. Participate in regular calls and meetings with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and their affiliates. Maintain Program Letter of Agreements with participating institutions who wish to participate in clinical rotations for their sponsored students. Coordinate clinical rotations with Bloodworks faculty and trainers. Utilize the UTMB electronic content to create the Bloodworks learning modules in a learning management system such as Blackboard. Function as the point person for new student orientation, ongoing student communication, and support during the program. Monitor student performance through grading assignments, ensuring completion of learning modules within the specified timeframe ensuring required participation in lectures and clinical rotations. Oversee annual program policy review. Work with the Program Director to complete assignments of course content review as an affiliate of the UTMB program. Coordinate and run meetings with the committee overseeing the program and the candidate selection committee. Assist with the application and maintenance of state licensure and CAAHEP program accreditation. Primary coordinator and educator for the Immunohematology portion of the Shoreline Medical Laboratory Technician certification program. Duties include: Delivering the course content and laboratory education for the 8-week immunohematology class on the Shoreline Community College campus annually. Coordinating the schedule of lectures assigned to Bloodworks staff who volunteer to help teach the course. Working with the director of the Shoreline CC program to ensure educational activities are meeting student needs and formal accreditation program requirements. Attending meetings scheduled by the Shoreline program director. Sharing job openings at Bloodworks with Shoreline students and providing information to help them understand possible job opportunities and fields available for further professional development at the Blood Center. Sharing course evaluations and feedback with the Bloodworks Northwest CMO. Primary coordinator for BWNW Blood Bank (BB) certification activities. Duties Include: Coordinate Bloodwork's internal educational program for employees seeking to meet didactic and practical requirements in pursuit of BB(ASCP) certification. Maintain educational materials used to help BWNW employees who are self-studying for the BB exam. On occasion, coordinate a more formal BB course review with medical and technical staff trainers. Over time, work with the CMO to develop an online program available to both employees and non-employees of Bloodworks Northwest. Supervise BWNW part-time laboratory assistants helping with educational programs. Serve as the hiring manager and provide direct supervision for these individuals. Work with the transfusion service supervisor to coordinate the laboratory assistant’s time when not actively helping with training activities. Coordinate Medical Laboratory Scientist and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) education and training with local and regional institutions and online programs as needed. Coordinate inter-departmentally to develop training schedules and resources to meet the educational requests of students. Organize clinical experiences for students outside of Bloodworks who need to fulfill the clinical requirements of online programs.  Serve as the TSL immunohematology trainer for external program students, in coordination with transfusion service laboratory supervisors and trainers. Maintain affiliation agreements with online programs under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer. Actively participate in the training and logistics of the above programs, including preparation of samples, grading of work, and delivery of educational content. Work closely with the program directors for the MLT certification programs to improve classes and ensure the maintenance of accreditation in the Transfusion Medicine discipline. Trend success of trainees on certification examinations and tailor training to address deficiencies. Create website information on the prerequisites and application process for rotations in departments at Bloodworks. Be the point person to facilitate the request for Bloodworks speakers from outside groups and organizations, such as regional laboratory conferences. Help keep speakers on track with submission deadlines. Be available to give tours of Bloodworks Laboratories to outside students as time allows, in coordination with laboratory supervisors. As needed, assist with conference management and event planning, such as for Symposia and the Regional Education Meetings. Evaluate requests from high school, college, and graduate students requesting internships with Bloodworks; coordinate schedules and serve as primary mentor/supervisor when the rotation is more technical. Be available for occasional time on weekends when opportunities arise to highlight work at Bloodworks (job fairs, Pacific Science Center initiatives, etc.). Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as written. Perform other duties as assigned.   REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Must qualify as Testing Personnel, High Complexity Testing, under CLIA personnel requirements found in Subpart M of the Code of Federal Regulations. Bachelor of Science degree in clinical laboratory science (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Education must be equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours of science courses that include a minimum of 6 semester hours of Chemistry, 6 semester hours of Biology, and 12 semester hours of Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Laboratory Technology in any combination. ASCP BB certification is also required. MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification. Specialist Blood Banking (SBB) certification is preferred. Minimum of 2 years of immunohematology laboratory experience. Two years experience in teaching adult education at the Medical Laboratory Scientist level or equivalent. Proficiency with the Black Board learning platform is strongly preferred.   Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:    Experience working both independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Very strong organizational skills and ability to plan and lead effective meetings. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong ability to manage multiple projects/priorities to achieve program goals. Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and produce results. Skills in coordinating numerous activities, meetings, and functions.  Experience in writing and managing web content, and other social (existing or emerging) media content is preferred. Ability to handle interaction with all levels of the organization and the community. Analytical skills to recognize problems, make recommendations, and once approved, resolve and implement solutions. Required mental activities include continuous use of interpersonal skills and the ability to write and understand English.  Required mental activities used less frequently include decision-making, customer service, use of discretion, independent judgment and/or independent action, and the ability to read and speak English (used frequently); teamwork, creativity, mentoring, problem analysis, negotiation, training/supervising, and perform basic programming and Math (used occasionally); performing advanced Math (used rarely). Required physical activities include continuous sitting, talking, reaching, and hearing.  Required physical activities used less frequently include handling (used frequently); and stooping (used rarely). The ability to push, pull,l and lift an average of 15 pounds throughout the day is required, as is the ability to carry an average of 15 pounds throughout the day.   WORKING CONDITIONS: Job conditions to be expected include flexible work hours. This position has exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Telecommuting ability is an occasional condition of this role, with a requirement to be onsite for technical training sessions.   Benefits and Perks: Employees regularly scheduled for 24 hours per week are covered by medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, with family coverage also available.
