We have an exciting opportunity for a second shift Supervisor of Hospital Inventory Services within our Hospital Services Department at Bloodworks NW Renton! The incumbent will be responsible for contributing to the productivity of the Hospital Services department while supporting operational goals for Bloodworks. Guide the performance of staff by providing explanatory information and operational expertise, under the general direction of the Hospital Services Manager. Monitor the blood inventory at the Renton site and collaborate with the Portland and Eugene teams to ensure that inventory levels are adequate.  Provide routine and emergency support to Blood Services hospitals. Perform training and quality control procedures and develop standard operating procedures.   Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: As a Bloodworks Supervisor:  Assist in setting department goals and objectives consistent with Bloodworks and Hospital Services' mission  Consistently model values of Bloodworks and coach for the same expectation; contribute and build upon current practices and procedures in support of values, mission, and goals. Ensure that department documents, procedures, and actions comply with all laws, regulations, standards, and policies.  Ensure that staff members follow these requirements. Hire, develop, and retain a successful team. Ensure Renton department employees have relevant goals, and that evaluation is ongoing. Ensure customer needs and expectations are met Monitor the successes and challenges of the team  Ensure the department supports a balance of employee personal and business goals. Adhere to the department budget.  Recommend and maintain proper staffing levels to carry out department objectives. Recommend and provide systems, resources, and procedures as appropriate to achieve the department’s success. As a member of the management team  Provide timely and honest feedback to fellow supervisors regarding how the team functions. Challenge and offer support to fellow supervisors to ensure each department is contributing to the success of the organization Ensure the safety of the workforce through the administration of safety policies and monitoring of safety incidents’  Maintain confidentiality   Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: as Hospital Services Supervisor:  Supervise the Renton Hospital Services staff  Interview, select, and hire Hospital Services staff Train individuals to perform duties as listed in their job descriptions. Document training and ensure that staff performs only those duties which they have been trained to do.  Conduct ongoing competency evaluations. Assist with maintaining training materials used to conduct and document training. Evaluate individual performance based on pre-determined expectations.  Coach employees to ensure continual development.  In coordination with Director and Human Resources counsel, discipline, and terminate staff when performance does not meet expectations.  Conduct annual performance evaluations. Implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures Communicate frequently using a variety of methods, including one-on-one, email, departmental meetings ASSURE OPERATIONS ARE EFFICIENT and CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS ARE MET  Schedule staff work assignments to ensure optimal productivity and cost-effectiveness.  Monitor schedules to ensure staffing resources are appropriately allocated.  Assure pay practices and policies are consistently applied and followed.  Provide feedback to employees on attendance and punctuality. Monitor and proactively oversee the inventory levels at assigned sites coordinate and transfer inventory to meet the optimal needs of each location.  Monitor billing issues with Blood Services hospitals and resolve determination of credit/no credit policies.  Collaborate with the Finance department to reconcile billing and pricing discrepancies.  Work with hospitals and appropriate Bloodworks staff to resolve identified problems.  Serve as departmental liaison to transportation vendors; provide oversight on the transportation status of shipments to customers. Oversee and monitor all supplies used at the Renton site.  Collaborate with Materials Management to recommend product alternatives and cost savings measures.  Perform Hospital Services work as part of the work team schedule, at a level equivalent to a Hospital Inventory Specialist III. Monitor work practices to ensure current Good Manufacturing Practices are employed, quality control is performed, equipment is maintained, and appropriate action is taken.  Assure staff are customer-focused and understand the needs of the customer.  Resolve customer service issues in collaboration with the Hospital Services Director. Identify opportunities and implement process improvement, best practices, and processes that assure work methods are efficient. In coordination with the Director, establish departmental performance metrics and quality indicators.  Compile data and produce and publish descriptive reports.  Communicate performance to the workgroup.  Participate in the development of the annual personnel and operating budget of the department.  Administer the budget with emphasis on optimal use of the resources and waste reduction. ASSURE QUALITY AND REGULATORY STANDARDS ARE ME Assure that quality processes are followed, and error reporting is documented.  Investigate and document incidents that contribute to errors, accidents, or adverse outcomes of transfusion.  Report results to the Hospital Services Director in a timely fashion.  Implement corrective action and recommend preventive action and process improvement for sub-optimal processes.  Utilize appropriate resources to assist in problem resolution and remediation. Monitor work practices to ensure current Good Manufacturing Practices are employed, quality control is performed, equipment is maintained, and appropriate action is taken. Ensure the integrity of written and electronic records generated by the department. Coordinate operations to ensure processes are optimized, resources are appropriately used, and quality practices are consistently applied. Assist with regulatory look-back documentation on problematic recalled blood components; follow up with customers and internal departments as needed. Assure a safe work environment by reviewing safety practices and participating in the safety committee, developing safe practices, and communicating with staff.  Evaluate safety reports and remediate problems. Participates in the qualification and validation of processes and equipment  Participates in quality assurance activities Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.    REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Minimum four years of demonstrated skill in the work of the Hospital Services department, or equivalent experience in a leadership position at another Blood Center department or in the healthcare industry  Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience In addition, four years experience in a health care or laboratory environment, or equivalent people management experience in a fast-paced service-oriented industry Scientific and/or persuasive writing experience Demonstrated leadership experience preferred   SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS include, but are not limited to: Demonstrated skill in the work of the Hospital Services department, Order Entry, and Processing, or equivalent environment Ability to perform the duties of Hospital Inventory Specialist III Fully proficient in English written communications Requires ability to comprehend the criticality of the blood components being prepared for transfusion, the financial value of blood components being handled, and the necessity to follow all regulatory rules and regulations (AABB, CFR, EU, CLIA, HIPAA, and State) including FDA’s “Good Manufacturing Practices” in all work activities Lifting, carrying, and pushing requirements: The ability to lift and carry a maximum of 60 pounds is required Frequent lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds Infrequent pushing of up to 500 pounds on a wheeled rack in a cold environment Manual dexterity for computer keyboard use is required The ability to remain on task amid multiple audio and visual distractions is required, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff from other departments Demonstrated ability to develop and write Standard Operating Procedures Functional proficiency with Microsoft Office applications     Shift: Monday- Friday 1500-2330.      WORKING CONDITIONS: To obtain access to client facilities, the incumbent may be required to apply for and obtain clearance to access the client property.  This clearance process may require the incumbent to undergo additional levels of screening beyond bloodwork standard pre-employment screening. The position oversees staff and operations in a24-hours a day/7 day a week work environment. The following conditions are encountered in the performance of this job: an on-call resource for staff and schedule coverage (continuous), extensive computer/viewing monitor work, extended hours, heavy lifting, constant standing, and evening meetings. Position requires intermittent work in cold rooms (1oC – 6oC, up to 30 minutes) and in walk-in freezers (-35oC, up to 15 minutes) As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to customers, the incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or emergency operations.  Refer to Human Resources policy or department supervisors for more information. This position involves direct exposure to blood-borne pathogens Occasional travel to other locations within the Blood Center’s service area may be required.
