What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technologist II position at Bloodworks NW?
We have a wonderful new job opportunity for a technologist II. It is the responsibility of a Technologist II to perform routine and advanced molecular-based assays, data entry, reagent preparation, and process patient samples consistent with regulatory requirements and written Standard Operating Procedures, as well as perform advanced problem-solving procedures.
Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform procedures required for laboratory function promptly and according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements regarding patient and donor confidentiality.
Review and demonstrate knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
Perform procedures with emphasis on safety for self and others. Report safety issues to the supervisor or designee.
Communicate test issues with team members to maintain quality and expedite turnaround time (TAT). Assist team members in completing tasks when needed.
Perform Quality Control (QC) procedures for the environment and equipment, including cleaning, monitoring systems, and troubleshooting problems as needed.
Maintain adequate inventories of reagents and supplies. Restock and clean the workbench as needed and at the end of the shift.
Answer phones and take messages. Create, file, and retrieve patient charts. Send completed reports.
Perform routine and advanced procedures related to molecular-based assays, coagulation procedures, and immunoassays under routine and emergency protocols for patient testing and research studies according to SOP.
Prepare samples and appropriate reagents and supplies.
Perform quality control procedures.
Conduct required procedures accurately and within established time requirements.
Analyze and document results; recognize unusual findings under the direction of Technologist III and/or Supervisor and determine the need for additional testing.
Perform data entry and review to accurately document results.
Issue reports and communicate results to health care professionals, as required.
Use laboratory management software to accurately record and maintain data and produce reports.
Provide a high level of customer service to patients, physicians/health care professionals, institutions, and coworkers, including scheduling patient appointments, communicating testing/specimen requirements, and reporting results.
Train other Technologists to perform required laboratory procedures as required.
Complete all required testing for Competency Evaluations in an accurate and timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:
Significant manual dexterity is required to operate various instruments, perform required data entry quickly and accurately, and the ability to pipette multiple batches of samples using a micro-pipettor
Knowledge of basic chemistry.
Knowledge of basic Immunology and ELISA techniques is desirable.
Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures.
High attention to detail and accuracy is critical.
Perform tasks as a member of a team.
REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician, or Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Must meet CMS/CLIA requirements for qualification to conduct high-complexity testing.
A minimum of 2 years experience in a clinical laboratory setting, an emphasis in Hemostasis/Coagulation procedures is preferred.
Or two years of laboratory experience in molecular-based assays. Sequencing experience preferred
Ability to perform data entry and basic functions in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures.
Ability to work holidays or overtime as assigned.
Use of a company or personal vehicle for company business requires an acceptable driver's record as defined by the vehicle policy.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a highly regulated position and is subject to meeting various regulatory agencies and accrediting body rules and regulations. These may include, but are not limited to, CMS/CLIA, Washington Medical Testing Site, etc.
The position requires extensive computer work, occasional constant standing, extensive close work, and heavy lifting.
Work is performed in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
This position has direct exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
The position requires occasional on-call, overtime, and holidays as assigned.
