General Job Description:
The Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction plays a pivotal role in fostering instructional excellence and advancing teaching practices across Pre-K through 12th grade. This position is responsible for developing and refining data-driven instructional strategies to improve student outcomes, facilitating collaborative professional development for educators, and ensuring curriculum and instructional practices align with district goals and state standards.
Additionally, the Associate Superintendent oversees Annual Yearly Progress, ensures schools adhere to instructional standards, and manages the development and implementation of district-wide short-cycle assessments. This role also includes overseeing district and school-level short-cycle assessments, distance education, and computer-based learning, as well as coordinating the District’s 90-Day Plan. Further responsibilities include providing data to support individual school and district needs and assisting the Director of Data & Assessments with state reporting and PowerSchool database maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Certification: New Mexico Administrators PreK-12 or K-12 License required and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
- Administrative Experience: Minimum of five years in public school administration (PK-12) with supervisory responsibilities and possess or can obtain a NM Level 3B K-12 administrative license.
- Leadership Experience: At least five years in a leadership role with a proven track record of effective team management.
- Curriculum Expertise: At least five years of experience in curriculum development, monitoring, research, and implementation.

Performance Responsibilities
District Planning & Compliance
- Develop and oversee the District DASH Learning Plan and Reading Literacy Plan.
- Review, approve, and submit 90-Day Plans to the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED).
- Support schools in developing, monitoring, and implementing their DASH and/or 90-Day Plans.
- Collect and analyze data for DASH and 90-Day Plans, including assisting school sites with data collection.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Director on classroom size reduction strategies.
Management & Staffing
- Coordinate teacher licensure with Human Resources to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Work with the Director of IT to manage course numbers for new courses and program changes.
- Participate in budget meetings and oversee financial planning related to curriculum and instruction.
Professional Development & Instructional Support
- Plan, lead, audit, and organize professional development seminars aligned with DASH and 90-Day Plans.
- Implement and oversee curriculum pacing, revisions, and instructional initiatives.
- Observe and support the development of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Observe and support district Instructional Resource coaches.
Instructional Materials & Curriculum Management
- Audit, manage, budget, and maintain district instructional materials and textbook adoption cycles.
- Ensure all instructional materials align with state standards and are accessible and used effectively by teachers.
- Develop, implement, and manage interim assessments across the district.
Supervision & Evaluation
- Supervise and evaluate the College and Career Readiness Coordinator
- Monitor and support school evaluation processes.
- Evaluate and mentor Math and Reading Coaches.
- Maintain awareness of the Response to Intervention (RTI) structure and NMPED’s Multi-Layered System of Supports (MLSS) for student intervention.
- Support Tier I instructional practices, including differentiation and engagement strategies for teachers.
- Oversee and supervise Continuous Classroom Improvement, Vertical Teaming, and Literacy Plans.
Technology & Data Management
- Interact and communicate effectively with staff across multiple departments regarding software, hardware, and data needs.
- Ensure compliance with data security standards, including FERPA regulations.
- Facilitate the importing and exporting of student data for online testing environments.
- Integrate Common Core State Standards with formative and summative assessments.
- Oversee software updates for online coursework, testing, and data warehousing.
Strategic Planning & Problem-Solving
- Develop innovative solutions to complex educational challenges while aligning with district goals.
- Support the implementation of the district’s strategic planning objectives.
