POSITION: Instructional Assistant, Middle and High School Media Center
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Designee
SERVICE: 181 days, 5.9 hours/day

REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate/equivalent or higher
- Ability to work with individual students
- General understanding of the educational process
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the daily operation of the media center.
- Unpacks and displays new books.
- Orders books and periodicals for preview.
- Maintains a master inventory of available books, periodicals, audiovisual equipment.
- Catalogs all instructional resources.
- Checks books in and out in the manner established by the Principal.
- Maintains the media center in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Supervises and assists students while in the media center.
- Develops means to achieve effective implementation and continuous improvement of the media program.
- Establishes and implements media procedures as they pertain to staff, students and the community.
- Completes the necessary forms and consults with the Principal on purchasing of library.
- books, AV equipment, AV materials and other instructional materials and equipment that enhance the adopted curriculum.
- Maintains an up-to-date collection of materials by acquiring new materials and appropriately
discarding outdated materials.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new learning materials available in the media center.
- Serves as a resource to classroom teachers in planning of various units.
- Coordinates the teaching of media skills.
- Participates in professional development as directed by building administration.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality.
- Maintains professional appearance and behavior while on duty.
- Ensures own regular and prompt attendance.
- Effectively completes regular and other job performance criteria as assigned.
- Promotes good public relations for the District and community.
- Remains free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment in the District.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, and multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
